My CEO HUSBAND sign the divorce novel Chapter 283

Chapter 283: Was it a mistake?

Is this a mistake... or...?

But how could anyone make such a mistake? Especially with food or a drink?

"Doctor, are you sure about this?" Herbert, making me to look up from the report.

The doctor nodded without hesitation.

"We have full confidence in our equipment, Mr. Whitemore. The test results, together with the symptoms Aimy presented, indicate that she ingested a harmful substance."

He paused before continuing.

"If I may ask, is Aimy allergic to anything? Or did she eat anything new today? If she has a severe allergic reaction to an ingredient used in her meal, it could produce similar symptoms."

Herbert immediately shook his head.

"No. Everything Aimy ate this morning is something she’s had several times before."

The doctor fell silent for a moment, deep in thought.

"In that case, we’ll have to consider another possibility."

He looked between the two of us before speaking again.

"Can we have the remaining food or drink she consumed this morning brought here? We can run tests on it. If there was any foreign substance in it, there’s a chance we’ll find something."

"That’s a good idea," Herbert said immediately.

He took out his phone and made a call.

"Anna, can you get me the meal Aimy was eating before she fell sick?" he said into the phone.

He listened for a few seconds before replying,

"Alright. Hurry and check, but don’t make it too obvious."

He ended the call, and the three of us sat quietly, waiting.

Several minutes later, his phone rang again.

He answered immediately, but as he listened, his expression gradually fell.

"...Alright. It’s okay. We’ll find another way."

He lowered the phone.

Both the doctor and I looked at him questioningly.

"The food had already been discarded."

The small hope I’d allowed myself to have disappeared instantly.

After a long silence, I turned back to the doctor.

"But... is she going to be alright?" I asked quietly.

The doctor sighed.

"We managed to stabilize her before any permanent damage occurred, but that doesn’t mean she’s completely out of danger. We’ve done everything we can here, but this hospital has its limitations."

My brows furrowed.

"What do you mean?"

"Mr. Blackwood, Aimy needs further tests and specialized treatment that we simply don’t have access to in a small-town hospital."

Herbert frowned.

"So you mean she has to be transferred somewhere else?"

"As soon as possible," the doctor replied.

Herbert and I left the office feeling defeated.

The quickest way we could have found out what happened had already been lost, and now we’d have to find another way.

As we walked down the corridor, my thoughts refused to settle.

Who could possibly do something like that to Aimy?

I’d seen the way the Whitemore family cared for Alicia and Aimy. There was no way it could have been any of them.

But then... who else had access to Aimy?

And why would anyone target a two-year-old girl?

If this had truly been done on purpose, then it was far more serious than I’d imagined.

The person behind it wasn’t just trying to hurt Aimy.

They were trying to hurt either Alicia...

Or me.

Whoever it was...

They would pay for laying a hand on my family.
