As we made our way through the city, I kept my eyes on the scenery outside.
Velaridge City had always been beautiful and prosperous, but during the two years I’d been away, it seemed to have developed even further.
So had Blackwood Dominion.
Almost every large billboard or digital screen displayed either advertisements connected to the company or Alexander himself.
Sometimes he was giving interviews.
Sometimes attending corporate events.
Other times it was simply his photograph in one of his perfectly tailored suits.
His expression remained as unreadable as ever beneath headlines describing him as the country’s youngest successful chairman.
"Mummy, isn’t that Daddy?" Aimy asked, pointing excitedly at one of the giant screens.
I smiled and gently stroked her cheek.
"Yes, baby. That’s Daddy."
Since this was Aimy’s first time in such a large city, everything fascinated her.
She pointed at one thing after another, asking endless questions while I patiently answered each one, enjoying every bit of her cheerful chatter.
Almost an hour later, we arrived at a shopping plaza with a pharmacy inside.
The car stopped at the entrance, followed closely by the security vehicle.
Before I could even open the door, one of the security officers hurried over and opened it for me.
I thanked him before lifting Aimy into my arms and walking toward the entrance.
The other security officers remained outside.
Unfortunately...
That was enough to attract attention.
From the moment we stepped out of the car until we entered the building, people kept staring.
Some even whispered among themselves.
"Isn’t that Alicia Sinclair?"
"Yes... she’s Alexander Blackwood’s wife, isn’t she?"
"I heard they separated after the scandal with that model."
"Then who’s the little girl with her?"
"I heard they never actually divorced. She just disappeared a few weeks after their marriage was announced."
"I also heard she was pregnant when she left. Could they have reconciled because of their daughter?"
"I hope so. Maybe Chairman Blackwood can finally return to his senses."
"Yeah. I heard he almost went crazy after she disappeared. My sister works at Blackwood Dominion, and she said he’s become much colder and stricter over the past two years."
"Poor lady I wonder how she was able to endure all those months of betrayal while pregnant "
"Yeah men especially the rich ones are something else,I wonder how chairman blackwood could cheat on such a gorgeous lady if he knows he loves her this much"
"Especially with someone like that crazy celebrity even Mrs Alicia’s figure is better than hers, not to talk about face"
The whispers continued.
It was almost as though they didn’t care whether I heard them or not.
Instinctively, I tightened my hold around Aimy, pretending not to notice the curious stares.
A few people even tried taking pictures, only to be stopped by the security officers before they could.
I walked up to the pharmacy counter, gently setting Aimy down before leaning forward to quietly tell the pharmacist what I needed.
The pharmacist gave me a curious look but quickly retrieved the medicine.
After paying, I picked Aimy up again and walked out of the pharmacy.
Even as we left the building...
I could still feel countless eyes following us.
And the whispers continued behind my back.
As we were coming out of the pharmacy, I noticed a few boutiques inside the plaza and decided to buy some things for myself and Aimy. Most of our belongings were still in Rosewood Town, and considering it might take a while before Alexander allowed me to return and bring them back, it would be better to get a few necessities for now.
I headed into one of the boutiques and went straight to the children’s section.
Although Anna had packed enough clothes for Aimy before we left, I still picked out a few more outfits for her before moving to the women’s section.
I selected a few things for myself as well before heading to the counter.
The cashier took my card and processed the payment while another employee neatly packed everything into shopping bags.
Since I hadn’t bought much, I simply held Aimy’s hand with one hand while carrying the bags with the other.
Just as we stepped out of the boutique, I heard a very familiar voice call my name.
It sounded surprised...
Almost uncertain.
"Alicia...?"
