With that, her sister-in-law pushed Cecelia Archer aside and tried to leave.
Cecelia Archer and her brother knew perfectly well what she was up to. She wasn’t going grocery shopping; she was planning to run off with the property deed.
As long as she was in the apartment, they still had a chance. Once she left, getting it back would be nearly impossible.
"You can go grocery shopping, but this property belongs to Cecelia Archer, and she needs it urgently. Give the deed back to her!"
Her brother put Rocky on the bed and moved to grab his wife, but she dodged him.
"June Archer, if you lay another hand on me, I’m calling the police! It clearly has your name written on it, so how is it hers? I don’t care! You’re my husband, and I’m not giving it back!"
"Let me through!"
Her sister-in-law darted in front of Cecelia Archer, telling her to make way, but Cecelia was furious now too. With a SLAM, she shut the door.
"Sister-in-law, you can’t leave. I’ve made it perfectly clear. Candy and I will die if I don’t return this property deed. How can you be so greedy? Please, just think about us for a second."
"You—!"
Her sister-in-law glanced at her, then turned back to look at June Archer.
"What do you two think you’re doing? Are you going to rob me? Brother and sister, ganging up on me? Have you no shame?"
June Archer looked past his wife to Cecelia.
"Alright, Cecelia! Stop wasting your breath on her! If she were reasonable, this wouldn’t have dragged on for so long! Lock the door and watch Rocky!"
"What are you doing? June Archer, what do you think you’re doing?"
"AHHH! Help me! Somebody! My husband is hitting me!"
After he spoke, June Archer pinned his wife down by the side of the bed, and the two started to wrestle.
The scene was a chaotic mess. Afraid Rocky would be traumatized if he saw, Cecelia Archer jumped onto the bed, pulled him into her arms, and covered his eyes and ears.
Her sister-in-law cursed and screamed, struggling desperately, but after a monumental effort, her brother finally got a grip on the property deed.
He was just one pull away from getting it, but his sister-in-law held on to the bottom half for dear life.
RIIIP—
The property deed had been ripped in two.
Amid her sister-in-law’s dramatic wailing, Cecelia Archer left her brother’s home, holding the torn property deed.
The next morning at 7:30, Mrs. Vaughn had just come downstairs for breakfast when she overheard the guard at the gatehouse call Ms. King.
"Ms. King, is the Young Madam at home? There’s a woman at the gate looking for her... she says she’s her sister-in-law."
Ms. King froze. "Her sister-in-law? The Young Madam hasn’t been here for the last two days."
"So what should I do? Turn her away? Tell her to come back another day?"
’She is the Young Madam’s sister-in-law, after all, and this is her first time visiting. Even though the Young Madam isn’t here, others are. It wouldn’t be right to just send her away, would it?’
’But if I just let her in, I can’t guarantee anyone else will be willing to receive her.’
Not wanting to make the wrong call, she told the guard to wait. "Let me ask the master and I’ll call you back."
After hanging up, Ms. King turned to go upstairs to find the old master, but she came face-to-face with Mrs. Vaughn.
Mrs. Vaughn’s eyebrows were arched high on her forehead.
"’Young Madam’? ’Sister-in-law’? Who were you just on the phone with?
Ms. King could only answer truthfully. "The Young Madam’s sister-in-law has arrived."
Her sister-in-law?
"What does her family do?"
Ms. King hesitated. "...I heard Mr. Damien mention it once. He praised her brother, said he was very capable and down-to-earth. I think he’s a delivery driver."
The disgust on Mrs. Vaughn’s face was unmistakable.
If word of this got out, they’d be an absolute laughingstock.
’The prestigious Vaughn family, related by marriage to a delivery driver!’
