My Child and I Married a Billionaire novel Chapter 207

Chapter 207: Chapter 207: Stubborn to the End

The assistant was quite surprised by Cecelia Archer’s sudden arrival.

"Why are you here? President Grant has said many times that you’re not supposed to leave without his say-so. You..."

Panicked, he hurried to the door of the hospital room and looked around.

"Were you careful on your way here? Did anyone spot you? Miss Archer, you can’t do this again. President Grant isn’t well right now, and he’s entrusted your safety completely to me. If something happens to you, how am I supposed to answer to him?"

Cecelia Archer understood his worry and felt very sorry for her sudden appearance.

"I’m sorry, I’ve caused you trouble. Don’t worry, I’ll be careful. I’m just too worried about Shane."

The assistant closed the door to the hospital room, sighed, and spoke as he looked at the unconscious Shane Grant.

"President Grant was too careless with his health before and ruined his stomach. This time, the situation is quite serious. It was supposed to be a minimally invasive surgery, but when the doctor opened up his abdominal cavity, he saw the erosion was especially severe. He took a tissue sample for a pathological analysis, worried that it might be cancerous."

"What? It could be cancerous?"

"That’s just the doctor’s speculation; the final results aren’t out yet. But I have a feeling it’s very likely... President Grant has been in a very bad state these past two days, almost constantly unconscious."

Leaving the hospital room, Cecelia Archer’s heart sank to the depths.

’Shane Grant might have stomach cancer? Heavens, fate is too cruel to him!’

’First, he lost the wife he loved most. Then, his leg was permanently injured in a car accident. Now, his career has taken a massive hit, and his body is failing him...’

She felt the weight on her shoulders grow even heavier.

’The Grant Group absolutely cannot fall!’

’If Shane Grant really is seriously ill, he’ll need money for medical bills at the very least. And there are still two children with mouths to feed...’

Her mind heavy with worry, Cecelia Archer returned to the parking garage.

’It’s getting late. I wonder if the children are asleep. I’m so tired.’

Shane Grant’s car was right in front of her. She took out her keys, unlocked it, and was just about to open the door when, suddenly, two blindingly bright beams of light flashed on, illuminating her and Shane Grant’s car completely.

The sudden, intense light made Cecelia Archer’s eyes narrow, and she instinctively looked toward the source.

A black car, its make and model obscured, had just started its engine.

She assumed someone was just starting their car to leave and didn’t think much of it, placing her hand on the door handle.

But in the next second, a voice that sent shivers down her spine called out.

"Long time no see, Cecelia Archer."

Cecelia Archer froze and looked over again.

The car door pushed open, and a tall, imposing figure stepped out.

It was Damien Vaughn!

Although he was backlit and she couldn’t see his face clearly, Cecelia Archer knew his voice and silhouette all too well.

’Damien Vaughn has found me. Damien Vaughn knows!’

Cecelia Archer’s first instinct was to run.

’After "killing" his mother and then faking my own death to escape, if he catches me, it’s a dead end for sure!’

She yanked the car door open, but before she could even start the engine, Damien Vaughn was already beside the car.

With a SLAM, he slid deftly into the passenger seat and slammed the door shut.

"Trying to run? What are you running from?"

The harsh light shone on Cecelia Archer’s face, allowing Damien Vaughn to see every one of her features, even every pore, with perfect clarity.

’Wyatt Wynn was right. Not only is she fine, but she’s been living quite well during her time away from me.’

’Her face is done up with exquisite makeup, and her complexion is glowing.’
