Cecelia Archer met his gaze through the glass. She paused for a few seconds before lowering the window just a crack, her eyes meeting his calmly.
"Can I help you?"
It really was her!
Although the small opening only revealed her eyes, they were so beautiful and distinct that Wyatt Wynn recognized her instantly.
It was only then that he suddenly understood why Damien Vaughn had become such a love-struck fool after meeting Cecelia Archer. Even he, a stranger who had only met her a few times, was unconsciously captivated by her beauty. How could Damien, a complete novice at love, possibly resist?
"I knew it was you at a glance. Stop running, Cecelia Archer. I’m Wyatt Wynn. Get out and let’s talk."
Cecelia’s heart skipped a beat. ’He really recognized me.’
She used to think Veridia was so big—so big that no matter how hard she worked, she couldn’t even afford a bathroom, making her feel as insignificant as an ant.
But now, Veridia suddenly felt so small. She had only been out twice, and already one of Damien Vaughn’s men had caught her.
’So what is he going to do now? Is he here to get justice for Damien Vaughn? To make me pay?’
A storm was raging inside her, but she put on a calm facade.
"I’m sorry, who did you say you are? I think you have the wrong person, sir."
"The wrong person?" Wyatt Wynn pressed his face against the glass in disbelief, staring hard at her.
"Impossible. We may not have met many times, but you left a deep impression on me. I don’t mean any harm. Let’s just get out and talk."
As he got closer, Cecelia could clearly smell the alcohol on his breath.
She glanced over in Grace Sterling’s direction.
’Perfect. The traffic police are on their way over.’
She suddenly smiled, a mischievous and charming look on her face.
"Have you been drinking?"
Wyatt Wynn was momentarily stunned by her smile.
"Yeah, but a little alcohol is nothing to me. I could drink ten more glasses and still recognize you. If you won’t get out, I’m getting in. Cecelia Archer, where have you been all this time? Don’t you know that Vaughn...?"
Seeing that Cecelia had no intention of getting out and was speaking to him as if nothing was wrong, Wyatt Wynn grew intensely curious about what had happened. He reached for the back door handle, intending to get in.
But just as his hand touched the handle, before he could finish his sentence, his arm was twisted behind his back, and he was slammed onto the concrete ground.
"Don’t move! What are you doing? What do you think you’re doing?"
The traffic cop not only wrenched his arm sharply behind his back but also pressed a knee into it.
Wyatt Wynn felt as if his bones were about to shatter, and he grimaced in pain.
"AH— Who are you? What are you doing? Why are you grabbing me for no reason? Let me go!"
"What am I doing? I’m here to deal with drunken hooligans like you who break the law and harass people! Is that your car with the license plate Veridia AXXX?"
The man’s hold was professional, and his words were authoritative. Wyatt Wynn struggled to turn his head and saw that it was a police officer.
"A misunderstanding, a misunderstanding, Officer. I’m not a hooligan, and I wasn’t harassing anyone. Please, let me go."
The officer paid him no mind, refusing to let go.
"Answer my question! Don’t say anything unnecessary! I’ll ask you one more time, is the car with license plate Veridia AXXX yours?"
"Yes, it’s mine, it’s mine."
"When did you park it on this road?"
"Just two minutes ago, maybe. My car hasn’t been involved in anything shady!"
"Who drove it here?"
Wyatt Wynn: "..."
