My Child and I Married a Billionaire novel Chapter 214

Chapter 214: Chapter 214: Shut up. Sleep.

Cecelia Archer: "..."

’Didn’t I just tell him? Call for a tow truck!’

"That’s not necessary. It’s at least seventy kilometers from Veridia to here. You can’t afford the cost of a tow. I’ll just give the dealership a call. They offer free roadside assistance, so you don’t have to deal with it."

’Well, I have to thank him for that. He was saving me a considerable amount of money.’

"Thank you, President Vaughn. I’ll go wait downstairs, then. Come find me after you’ve had your rest."

’Does she hate being with me that much?’

’After all I’ve said, she still wants to leave?’

’This isn’t the first time we’ve been in the same room. Don’t tell me every time we shared a bed in the past, she was just forcing herself, fighting back disgust just to be with me?’

’Does she really find me that repulsive?’

Seeing her look as if she were ready to flee at any second, Damien Vaughn felt a surge of anger.

"So this is the bed you made. It’s filthy. How am I supposed to sleep on this? Take off your jacket and spread it on the bed!"

’To avoid him nitpicking, I’d made the bed meticulously, pulling the sheets perfectly taut. And he’s still finding fault?’

’If he thinks the bed is so dirty, he never should have come in here in the first place.’

"President Vaughn..."

"What? Is it so hard for me to borrow your jacket?"

"It’s not about borrowing the jacket. The point is..."

"Then I’ll buy it. You won’t have to pay for the ruined tire."

Cecelia Archer: "..."

’I had just been making a polite offer; I never actually intended to pay for his tire. But he was really going to make me pay!’

’His car was so expensive; a single tire had to cost tens of thousands. To make things difficult for me, he really wasn’t afraid of tarnishing his own image!’

If she didn’t give him her jacket, who knew what else he’d find to pick on. Cecelia could only take it off and lay it out neatly on the bed for him.

"Can I go now, President Vaughn?"

The words had barely left her lips, and before Damien Vaughn could answer, the innkeeper came upstairs with a KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK, carrying food.

"Here, here! Your big plate chicken, fresh and hot. Eat up while it’s warm."

Damien Vaughn took the food, handed the rest of the money to the innkeeper, and locked the door.

"I suspect that woman is up to no good. Who knows what she’ll try to pull while I’m asleep. You stay here and watch her."

’What?’

Cecelia Archer was about to open her mouth to protest, but Damien Vaughn held the food out to her.

"Your payment."

’Fine. I have to wait somewhere, might as well be here. It’d be pretty cold waiting downstairs in just a shirt this season, so waiting in a sunny room is acceptable.’

Cecelia Archer took the food. "Thank you, President Vaughn."

She pulled the nightstand to the middle of the room, squatted on the floor, opened the bag, and started taking out the contents one by one.

A serving of big plate chicken, a container of rice, two pairs of chopsticks, two bottles of water... and what was this little box?

Cecelia Archer thought it was a box of toothpicks, but when she brought it closer to look—

’That innkeeper was certainly... thoughtful... toward Damien Vaughn. He hadn’t asked for any, but she’d gone and kindly thrown in a box of condoms...’

She shot a hasty glance at Damien Vaughn. He wasn’t looking her way, so Cecelia stuffed the box into her pants pocket.

There were no chairs in the room, so Cecelia squatted on the floor to eat. Damien Vaughn, without even taking off his shoes, lay down ramrod straight on the bed.

Afraid of making any noise that might disturb him, Cecelia Archer ate with extreme caution.

By the time she finished the bowl of rice, her legs had gone numb from squatting.

She rubbed her legs, took a sip of water, and stood up, only to look up and meet Damien Vaughn’s wide, alert eyes.

"Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

Damien Vaughn still had that sour look on his face. "With you eating and drinking over there, how am I supposed to sleep?"

"I’m sorry for disturbing you. I’m finished now, so I won’t make any more noise. Please, go to sleep."

With that, she gathered the trash into the bag, tiptoed over to the window, squatted down, and took out her phone.
