The three of them stayed at the food stall for a long time, enjoying the night breeze, before heading back.
Maybe it was because they hadn’t been out to relax in so long, or maybe the atmosphere was just that good, but it felt absolutely wonderful.
Back in their room, Zeke Walton was overwhelmed with emotion. He couldn’t resist wanting to talk to Damien Vaughn and apologize. He also wanted to ask him what he thought about Cecelia Archer.
But President Vaughn, disgusted by the smell of barbecue smoke clinging to him, went straight into the bathroom as soon as he got back.
Not giving up, Zeke followed and leaned against the bathroom door.
"Vaughn, can I talk to you for a minute?"
Damien Vaughn was annoyed by how Zeke constantly hovered around Cecelia Archer with no sense of boundaries, and how she didn’t seem to push him away. His tone was cold.
"What’s there to talk about?"
"When did you find out that Cecelia is... Cecelia? Since you already knew, why..."
"Does it have anything to do with you?"
"Right, right, it has nothing to do with me, but..."
"If you know it has nothing to do with you, then shut up."
"But I..."
"Just watch your own eyes and hands, and keep a proper distance from her. If you dare act like you did today again tomorrow, I can’t guarantee I won’t pull my funding at any moment."
Zeke...
After a wonderful night’s sleep, Zeke woke up excitedly a little after six the next morning.
To thank Damien Vaughn, he had hand-washed both of their beach clothes after his shower the previous night, then dried them and left them neatly folded on the sofa.
Damien Vaughn was a light sleeper. The moment Zeke started moving around the room, he soon came out as well.
Zeke respectfully handed him his clothes.
"So, what are we doing today?"
"Aren’t you the one looking for investment to start a business? You’ve already written the proposal, and you don’t know what you’re supposed to do?"
Although Zeke had the creative ideas and had even written up a proposal, he didn’t have any experience in dealing with fruit, after all.
"Well, it’s my first time in a fruit-producing region, so I’m a bit lost. Should we ask around for the wholesale market, then compare a few suppliers and try to negotiate a long-term partnership?"
"What else?"
"In that case, Cecelia and I can just go. Don’t you have work to do? I won’t bother you."
Damien Vaughn realized what an ungrateful jerk he was.
’I just helped him sort out his plan, and now he’s trying to ditch me?’
He changed back into last night’s clothes right in front of Zeke, a cold, emotionless smirk on his face.
"It’s not that I look down on you, Zeke, but you really can’t handle this without me."
Zeke...
Cecelia had also woken up early, and she came out as soon as they called for her.
She was wearing the same outfit as the night before, with no makeup and her hair tied up in a neat bun. Seeing such a beauty first thing in the morning was truly refreshing.
The three of them had the buffet breakfast at the hotel. A staff member told them that if they were going out, it would be best to rent a car or a small scooter to avoid getting too tired or hot.
The trio went out for a look and Cecelia’s eyes landed on a scooter rental shop.
It was filled with colorful little electric scooters. Not only were the colors and designs cute, but the helmets were adorable too. They were clearly designed for girls, and the sight made her inner girly-girl squeal with delight.
"I want to ride a scooter."
"Scooters it is, then. A car would be inconvenient in a place like the wholesale market. We only need to rent two, though. I’ll give you a ride."
Zeke took Cecelia’s wallet, negotiated the price, and paid.
Cecelia chose two scooters and was about to get on the back of Zeke’s when his expression suddenly shifted. He had caught sight of Damien Vaughn’s grim face.
His heart skipped a beat, and he was flooded with guilt.
