Damien Vaughn and Cecelia Archer both thought her sister-in-law’s idea was quite good. It was true that a person couldn’t go through life without any ambition.
Taking over the courier station would fall within her brother’s professional scope, too.
It would be less strenuous work and bring in more income. What was not to like?
"This is a great idea. What do you think, brother?"
"What’s so great about it?" Her brother sounded far more pessimistic than his wife.
"The transfer fee is two hundred thousand! It’ll take forever to earn that back!"
"You’re impossibly stingy! You’ve been pinching pennies your whole life; you’ll never accomplish anything big!"
Seeing that her brother and sister-in-law were about to start arguing again, Damien Vaughn interjected.
"A two-hundred-thousand-yuan transfer fee must be for a fairly large station. Sister-in-law, may I ask why they’re looking to sell it?"
Seeing that Damien Vaughn was interested, his sister-in-law immediately began to recount the story with great enthusiasm.
"The owner of the courier station is a middle-aged man from out of town. Apparently, he married into the wife’s family and felt like a doormat for half his life. In the last few years, he started making good money from the station and got himself a young, beautiful mistress on the side. He just meant to have a little fun, but then the mistress got pregnant and wanted to marry him. She went and made a scene in front of his wife. The wife has been the dominant one their whole marriage, so how could she stand that kind of humiliation? In a fit of rage, she demanded a divorce. With all this drama, who has the energy to run a business? That’s why he’s trying to sell it now."
"His business is actually really good. Before all this trouble, everyone was so envious of him. But you know how it is—the people living around here are all poor, without much courage or foresight. They’re happy to watch someone else make it big, but when it comes to trying it themselves, they get cold feet. Otherwise, the place would’ve been sold long ago. It never would have been available for us."
"If we take it over, the two of us can run it together. Not only would we not have to work out in the wind and rain, but we could also look after the kids. Even if I have a second baby, I could raise it myself..."
"What my sister-in-law says makes sense. Then it’s settled. I’ll go with you to take a look later. If it seems like a good fit, I’ll put up the money."
’Damien Vaughn is going to help us buy the courier station? Just like that?’
Her brother’s face flushed. "No, no, no, how could we let you pay? It’s enough for you to come take a look. If even you think it’s a good investment, we have some savings. We’ll buy it ourselves."
"You’re planning on a second child and still have to raise Rocky. It’s better for you to have some savings on hand. This amount of money is nothing to me, so please, let me."
Damien Vaughn said gently to her brother.
"Cecelia only has one brother, you. You’re the closest person she has in this world, which means you’re the closest person I have, too. If I can’t spend the money I earn on my own family, then what’s the point of earning it?"
His words made her brother’s eyes well up. "This... Cecelia..."
Cecelia Archer felt awkward as well.
’She had already spent so much of Damien Vaughn’s money, and now, right after getting married, she was letting him solve her brother’s problems...’
’But she couldn’t bring herself to say anything to refuse him. After all, they were now a real, legal married couple.’
"Since Damien wants to do this, just let him," Cecelia said. "Once you two are settled, we’ll be able to rest easy."
Her brother couldn’t hold back any longer. He turned his head to the side and wiped away his tears.
Seeing a grown man cry was always moving, and the atmosphere grew a little sentimental.
Damien Vaughn reached out and gave her brother’s shoulder a squeeze.
"Don’t be like that. You took care of my wife and daughter for so long. This is the least I can do. In fact, I feel like spending this much for my wife and child is still not enough."
The sister-in-law couldn’t help but feel that Damien Vaughn was different this time.
’He dotes on Cecelia so much... Is he really treating Candy like his own biological daughter?’
"Candy is so lucky to have a father like you who treats her like his own flesh and blood. Ai, I probably shouldn’t say this, but what can I do, I’m your sister-in-law. Cecelia, now that you two are married, you should hurry up and have a baby for Damien."
Upon hearing this, Damien Vaughn couldn’t help but smile. He took Cecelia Archer’s hand and held it tightly in his own.
"Candy is my biological daughter, sister-in-law. For certain reasons, I wasn’t able to be there for them or acknowledge her sooner. From now on, I’ll do everything in my power to make it up to them."
His sister-in-law’s eyes went wide with shock. "Candy is your biological daughter? Are you serious? But didn’t Cecelia always say..."
