Quennel's words made Lionel pause.

He hadn't been entirely blind to that potential outcome.

The idea that this incident alone would completely change Hannah's opinion of him and lead to a reconciliation was absurd, practically impossible.

But his insistence was driven by a desire to prove to Hannah that he hadn't done such a thing, that he wasn't the monster she saw him as.

"I don't think you need to say anything more to Hannah. She clearly doesn't care. If she did, she would have sat down and listened to you properly."

She couldn't forget how her friends had been talking about her these past few days.
