Their entire conversation in the hospital room had, once again, been transmitted to Samuel and Hannah via the listening device.
They knew Cherry had tried her best to get the truth out of him, but Lionel still hadn't confessed.
Even so, judging by his earlier hesitations and silences, it was clear their initial suspicions were correct.
He had read the letter's contents and tried to sow discord by having a courier deliver it to them.
What he hadn't counted on was them hiring a forger overnight to rewrite the letter.
And he certainly didn't know they had checked the surveillance footage and realized the courier wasn't the one he had arranged.
After all, Lionel had no way of knowing who had delivered the letter to their home.
That was his fatal mistake. If he had known, things might have turned out differently.
It just proved what Cherry said: he was a fool who thought he was clever, and this was his one bright idea.
He could have just gone to Quennel to cause trouble himself.
Or he could have pretended he never saw the letter and just let it go.
Unfortunately, he chose this path.
But that's what you get when you're dealing with a fool.

The Temple Family Estate.
"For now, let's act like we know nothing. We won't tell anyone, especially not Quennel. If Quennel really is behind this, he'll get more anxious than me when he sees I'm not reacting. If he's not, he probably won't approach me."
After Hannah spoke, Samuel Temple agreed that it was the best course of action for now.
They really couldn't think of any other way to handle it.
"Hannah, Lionel might go to Quennel himself. After all, he thinks the letter had Quennel's name on it, and besides us, he's the only one who knows about it. He might get desperate and confront Quennel directly for an explanation!"
The more he spoke, the more he believed it was a strong possibility.
Lionel was, after all, an impulsive person. Now that his plan to use Hannah had failed, he wouldn't just give up.
He might very well go to Quennel himself to demand answers.
