For Hannah to agree at this moment, she definitely had her reasons. And while they couldn't figure out why she had changed her mind, they knew Hannah must have a purpose.

“Lionel, I’ve agreed to your outrageous condition. So, let’s meet at City Hall tomorrow morning to sign the divorce papers. I know there’s a cooling-off period, but as long as you don’t cause any more trouble in these next thirty days…”

“Once the thirty days are up, you can go pay Sandra her settlement. Even if the police issue a notice in the meantime about how much you owe, you have to tell Sandra she has to wait until our divorce is final. Make sure she understands when we’re signing the papers and when we’ll get the final certificate. Got it?”

“Yes, of course. As long as you’ve agreed, I’ll do everything exactly as you say,” Lionel said, his voice filled with excitement.

With this, the compensation issue was finally resolved, and his relationship with Hannah hadn't completely fallen apart. They were still on decent terms.

Once these two matters were handled, he could finally start investigating who had reported him in the first place.

If it weren't for whoever snitched, none of this mess with Hannah would have ever happened.

“Then I’ll see you tomorrow morning at City Hall, eight-thirty sharp. You’d better be there!”

With that final instruction, Hannah turned, walked to the side of the road, got into her car, and drove back to the Temple estate.

Lionel stood there, watching her car drive away, a slow smile spreading across his face.

Hannah had been so calm and reasonable with him today. They hadn't even argued. Did this mean their relationship was on the mend?

“Even if he goes to the police and claims we had an agreement for a fake divorce and that I was supposed to remarry him, the police won't do a thing about it.”

She admitted that at first, she had been so taken aback by the absurdity of his suggestion that she just thought he was crazy and didn't think it through.

But then, the realization hit her, and she knew she had to agree. That way, what he saw as a “fake divorce” would become her very real freedom.

“Of course! Why didn’t I think of that? A divorce is a divorce! Once you have that certificate, it doesn’t matter what Lionel says about getting remarried! You’ll already be divorced! My god, he almost had me fooled. It’s a good thing you’re quick on your feet, Hannah!”

Hannah nodded. “Exactly. So as long as Lionel doesn't figure it out in the meantime, once that cooling-off period is over, we’ll get our divorce certificate.”
