Chapter 153

Gerald

Gerald smiled as little Angelina tugged at his fingers, her small hand wrapped tightly around his. Her golden curls bounced as she walked

beside him, barefoot on the warm wooden floors of their home.

“Will Mama be okay?” she asked for the tenth time that morning, her voice soft but laced with worry.

“Yes, sweetheart,” he said, kneeling down to her level. “She’ll be fine. And soon, you’ll have a little brother.”

Angelina’s face lit up instantly. “Really? A brother?!”

Gerald chuckled. “Maybe even two if we’re lucky.”

She gasped, her toothless grin making him laugh harder. “Two brothers! That means I’ll be the boss, right?”

“Of course you will,” he said, brushing a strand of hair from her forehead. “You’ll be the big sister.”

She giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck. Gerald lifted her up and twirled her once before walking toward the garden, where sunlight filtered through the trees and the scent of fresh lavender filled the air.

He looked around at the house that had become their haven. It was peaceful, something he’d never thought he’d have. The walls no longer echoed with silence or anger, just laughter and the small patter of his daughter’s feet.

Liliana had turned everything around.

She was the reason he smiled again. The reason he believed again.

He looked up toward the open window of their room, where soft cries of pain echoed faintly. His heart squeezed, but he reminded himself that she was strong-stronger than anyone he’d ever known.

“Stay with Aunt Sel, okay?” He told Angelina, passing her to Sel, who had just stepped out from the kitchen, flour dusting her apron.

Sel nodded, taking the little girl’s hand. “Come on, sweetheart, let’s go make something special for your mama.”

Gerald smiled gratefully before heading upstairs.

The room was warm, the curtains drawn halfway. Coco was there, helping Dahlia and the midwife as Liliana gripped the sheets, her face

damp with sweat.

“Liliana,” Gerald said softly, stepping closer.

Her eyes met his, tired but fierce. “You said one,” she gasped out, breathing hard. “Just one.”

He grinned despite the tension. “Guess our sons had other plans.”

She let out a weak laugh between contractions, her hand squeezing his so tight his knuckles cracked.

Hours passed. The sounds of pain and anticipation filled the air until, at last, the first cry broke through the silence.

Gerald’s eyes widened as the midwife lifted a small, wriggling baby and placed him in Liliana’s arms.

“It’s a boy,” she said, smiling warmly.

Liliana’s lips trembled as she looked at him. The baby’s skin was pink, his hair dark like Gerald’s. She kissed his forehead, tears filling her

eyes.

But before she could say anything, another contraction hit.

“Wait, there’s another one!” the midwife shouted.

Gerald blinked. “Another…what?”

Liliana’s scream drowned out his shock as the midwife rushed back into position. Minutes later, another baby cried stronger and louder

than the first.

Twin boys.

Liliana sobbed with relief, exhaustion written all over her face as both babies were placed in her arms. Gerald brushed his thumb across

her cheek, completely overwhelmed.

“You did it,” he whispered. “You did it, my love.”

She smiled faintly. “We did it.”

He leaned down and kissed her forehead, unable to stop smiling.

The house soon filled with laughter and noise. Angelina tiptoed into the room, wide-eyed at the sight of her tiny brothers.

“They’re so small,” she whispered.

Gerald lifted her onto the bed beside Liliana. “Meet your brothers…Adrian and Alec.”

Angelina touched one of their hands gently, giggling when the baby’s fingers curled around hers. “I think he likes me.”

“He already knows you’re his big sister,” Liliana said softly.

It felt perfect. The family he’d dreamed of, finally complete.

Gerald couldn’t stop staring at them-at his wife, his daughter, and his sons.

Everything he’d ever fought for, bled for, and almost lost was right there in front of him.

He wished his parents could see. They would have been proud, especially his mother. She’d always told him that someday, he’d find peace.

And finally, he had.

By evening, the sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of orange and violet. The air smelled of rain and roses.

Gerald stepped outside for a breath, his heart still racing from the whirlwind of the day. He stood on the porch, closing his eyes for a

moment just to take it all in.

That was when Landen appeared, walking quickly toward him.

“Gerald,” he said, his tone serious.

Gerald turned, still smiling faintly. “Now’s not the time, Landen. Liliana just gave birth.”

“I know,” Landen said, lowering his voice. “But there’s trouble at the border. Our men reported movement-rogues, maybe worse. We need

your command.”

Gerald’s smile faded, replaced by calm authority. “You go,” he said firmly. “Handle it. I trust you.”

“Are you sure?”
