My Fated Alpha's Cruel Game (Elena and Marcus) novel Chapter 115

Chapter 115: Chapter 115 Blood Experiment

Elena’s POV

"Yeah. Pretty good huh?" The creature asked with a chilling chuckle, retreating deeper into the shadows of its cage.

My skin crawled at the satisfaction in its voice. This thing was enjoying our predicament far too much.

"You’re absolutely not going out into those woods. We’re not using you as bait." Damien’s voice cut through the basement air like a blade, his alpha authority radiating from every word.

Relief flooded through me at his protective stance, even as frustration bubbled up. "I was thinking exactly the same thing," I said, grateful that Damien and Marcus were on the same page about this insane idea.

"Come on, Marcus. Let’s get the hell out of here." The musty basement air was making my lungs feel heavy, and being near that creature was setting every instinct on high alert.

Marcus’s eyes remained fixed on the pale, twisted thing in the cage for several long moments. His jaw worked silently before he finally turned to follow Damien and me up the narrow wooden stairs. The basement door slammed shut behind us with a satisfying thud, and Damien’s hands moved quickly to secure every lock we had installed.

But my mind was already racing ahead to the impossible problem we now faced. "If we can’t use me as bait, then what the hell are we going to do? All our soldiers traveled here for nothing? We’ve already got a comprehensive plan in place."

The weight of all those warriors who had left their families and territories to help us felt crushing. They deserved better than to return home empty-handed because we couldn’t execute our strategy.

"I know the situation is complicated. But I’m not going to let you walk into those woods as prey." Damien’s voice carried the finality of an alpha decision, no room for negotiation.

A new idea sparked in my mind. "We could send a decoy instead. A female warrior who resembles me physically."

Both Marcus and Damien let out simultaneous scoffs that made my cheeks burn with embarrassment.

"What?" I demanded, crossing my arms defensively. Their reaction stung more than I wanted to admit.

"No she-wolf looks like you, Elena. I’m sorry, but they simply don’t." Damien’s tone was matter-of-fact, but there was something deeper in his eyes that made my heart skip.

Marcus nodded in agreement. "Your scent, your energy signature, everything about you is unique. These creatures would know the difference immediately."

"Well, what the hell are we supposed to do then?" The question came out sharper than intended, my frustration bleeding into every syllable.

Marcus suddenly stiffened, his head tilting toward the basement door. "It can still hear every word we’re saying."

The realization sent ice through my veins. Of course that thing was listening, probably relaying everything back to its pack somehow. We had been discussing our vulnerabilities right in front of our enemy.

Without another word, we moved to the far side of the packhouse, putting as much distance as possible between ourselves and the basement. The living room felt safer, though I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were still being watched somehow.

"Alright. We’ll brief the warriors at first light. Share this new intelligence and develop a completely different strategy." Damien settled into planning mode, his tactical mind already working through alternatives.

"Sounds like our best option," I agreed, though uncertainty gnawed at me.
