Chapter 116: Chapter 116 Blood and Venom

Elena’s POV

The creature began writhing within minutes, its agonized screams echoing off the basement walls as it begged me to stop whatever torment I had inflicted upon it. Its voice cracked with desperation as it demanded to know what I had done, but I remained seated on the cold concrete floor, watching with complete detachment. My face betrayed nothing as I observed its suffering, noting every twist of pain that contorted its features.

Time seemed suspended in that dim basement. I lost track of how long I sat there, completely absorbed in my observations. The only indication that hours had passed came when the first rays of dawn began filtering through the small window positioned high above the cage. The pale morning light cast eerie shadows across the floor where the creature had finally stopped its violent thrashing.

Rising slowly from my position, I approached the cage with measured steps. The silence that had replaced the earlier screaming was almost more unsettling than the noise had been. I needed to determine whether my experiment had been successful, whether the creature was merely unconscious or if my blood had actually killed it.

The thought of using my canine teeth crossed my mind again. I already knew that method would be lethal, but a single bite wouldn’t help us develop a strategy against multiple enemies. We needed something more practical, something that could be replicated and used on a larger scale. My blood could potentially be synthesized in a laboratory setting. Scientists might be able to create an artificial version that retained the same deadly properties. It was ambitious, perhaps even far-fetched, but it represented our best hope.

Moving closer to examine my subject, I peered through the metal bars at the motionless form sprawled across the cage floor. Its chest showed no signs of rising and falling, and its limbs lay at unnatural angles. Confident that it was either dead or deeply unconscious, I took another step forward to get a better look.

Without warning, the creature exploded into motion, launching itself toward the bars with supernatural speed. Its clawed hands shot through the gaps, grasping desperately for any part of me they could reach. My reflexes kicked in just in time, allowing me to leap backward before those deadly talons could make contact. My heart hammered against my ribs as I stared at the thing that had nearly caught me off guard.

The creature’s lips pulled back in a mocking grin that revealed its pointed fangs. "Looks like your blood trick didn’t work after all. What else have you got in that bag of tricks?"

Instead of responding to its taunts, I walked across the basement to retrieve a first aid kit from one of the metal shelves. Carrying the white plastic box back to my makeshift laboratory, I settled down beside the cage and began examining its contents more carefully.

My fingers closed around a small specimen cup as an idea began forming in my mind. I held the clear plastic container up to the light, studying it thoughtfully while considering the possibilities.

"Werewolves have venom in our canines, don’t we?" I mused aloud, more to myself than to my captive audience. "I’m willing to bet that my venom is what would actually kill you."

The creature immediately retreated to the far side of its cage, pressing its back against the bars as if trying to put as much distance between us as possible. Its reaction told me everything I needed to know about the validity of my theory.

Setting the specimen cup aside, I placed the entire first aid kit on the ground and stood up. The creature watched my every movement with obvious fear, no longer displaying the cocky attitude it had shown moments before. This time, it made no attempt to approach the bars as I moved closer.

Despite its retreat, I could hear the change in its breathing pattern. The steady rhythm had become labored and irregular, confirming that my blood had indeed weakened it significantly. Even though the initial dose hadn’t been fatal, it had clearly compromised the creature’s strength and vitality.
