122 Chapter 122 Power Transfer
Damien’s POV
The military forces were still preparing their assault against Marcus’s pack, but Elena was determined to provide them with undeniable evidence that werewolves weren’t responsible for the human deaths. The real culprits were these dark creatures we were about to face in battle.
Elena and I needed to signal our readiness to the entire group, so the forest suddenly erupted with the violent symphony of bones snapping and reshaping as every warrior began their transformation. We launched ourselves into the dense woodland as a unified pack.
Elena and I led the charge with Marcus maintaining his position on Elena’s opposite flank. Our primary objective was her protection above all else, since she remained our only hope of preventing this slaughter and stopping their master’s killing spree.
We maintained our relentless pace through the wilderness for hours until we reached the location where Marcus had previously encountered one of these monsters.
Elena slipped behind the cover of a massive oak tree, shifted back to her human form, and quickly dressed before stepping into view of our wolf pack.
The rest of us maintained our distance while she continued forward alone.
She pressed deeper into the forest for several more minutes until she discovered a clearing dominated by towering stone formations. She began scaling the enormous boulders with practiced ease, scanning every shadow and crevice.
Without warning, one of those nightmarish beings dropped from above, landing directly in her path. It tilted its head with predatory curiosity as it studied Elena intently.
“Well, well. What interesting prey have we discovered here?” the creature hissed.
“You
been hunting me. Here I am. Now end your attacks on innocent humans,” Elena commanded with unwavering authority.
“Such decisions are far beyond my authority. Only our master determines such matters,” it replied, advancing another threatening step toward her position.
“Then we’ll do this the difficult way,” Elena declared, launching herself forward and

burying her fangs deep into the creature’s exposed throat.
She propelled herself backward off the boulder as the monster began shrieking in agony, collapsing onto the rocky ground and convulsing violently.
The air suddenly filled with the thunderous beating of countless wings as dozens more creatures descended from the darkening sky, converging rapidly on our location.
I surveyed the overwhelming numbers surrounding us. Counting seemed pointless when we faced such impossible odds.
The moment they touched down, Elena found herself completely encircled. The creatures formed a tight ring around her while she rotated slowly, assessing each threat. They had anticipated exactly this kind of direct confrontation. Which was precisely what Elena had been counting on.
“Elena killed Marcus. She’s become our new Alpha,” he stated matter–of–factly.
“Elena would never murder him in cold blood,” I protested firmly.
“She didn’t commit murder. Marcus linked with all of us before the end. That creature had already delivered fatal wounds. Marcus instructed Elena to finish him quickly so pack leadership would transfer directly to her. She needed control of our forces,” he clarified.
“Marcus gave her his pack,” I said, finally understanding.
“Exactly,” the warrior confirmed.
I began searching frantically through the surrounding area, desperately hoping to locate her. I assumed she had simply withdrawn somewhere private to process the devastating reality of having to end Marcus’s life herself. But I gradually realized she wasn’t anywhere in the vicinity.
“ELENA!” I screamed her name until my throat burned. But silence was my only response.
They had succeeded. Those monsters had actually managed to capture and take her away.
