40 Chapter 40 Bond Severed
Marcus’s POV
“And I refuse to be just another one of your side pieces like all those other women in this pack that you think I don’t know about,” Viviana hissed, her voice dripping with
venom.
My blood ran cold. “What the hell are you talking about?”
“Don’t play dumb with me, Marcus. There are others, aren’t there? You’ve been vanishing constantly these past weeks. Before, you never left my sight without telling me exactly where you were going. Now you disappear for hours and refuse to explain yourself. I wasn’t born yesterday. yourself. I wasn’t born yesterday. I know you have someone else.”
The accusation hit like a punch to the gut. “Who?”
“I don’t know yet, but I will soon enough. The private investigator I hired should have answers for me any day now.”
My heart stopped. “What private investigator?”
“Relax. He’s not from your pack, so your precious secrets are safe for now.” Her smile. was pure ice as she grabbed my arm, forcing me to turn back toward the engagement party.
Panic shot through every nerve in my body. If she discovered Elena, she would expose everything to the entire pack. There would be no way to control the damage, no way to protect what Elena and I had. Every person who knew about our mating bond would have to help me keep this secret buried.
I managed to establish a mind link with Jett while trapped in the crowd of celebrating pack members. He promised to check on Elena and report back. That small comfort was all I had to cling to as I was forced to continue this charade.
The rest of the evening became a nightmare of fake smiles and hollow congratulations. I had to play the role of the eager groom, pretending to be thrilled about this arranged marriage when every fiber of my being screamed in protest.
Viviana never let me out of her sight. She monitored my every movement like a hawk circling prey, making it impossible to slip away even for a moment.
When her friends from her old pack arrived, the celebration became even more

unbearable. Their loud voices and drunken laughter grated against my raw nerves as they toasted to a future I wanted no part of
I eventually escaped to the back stairs, desperate for a moment alone to contact Jett again. When I asked about Elena, something in his voice made my stomach twist with dread.
“She’s fine,” he said, but the hesitation told me everything I needed to know.
She wasn’t fine. She was probably breaking apart right now, just like I was. All I wanted was to run to her, to pull her into my arms and promise that everything would work out. But Viviana’s threats hung over me like a blade, her uncle and his allies ready to destroy everything I had built.

The other Alphas already despised me. My pack’s size and strength made them jealous, and refusal to weaken my own territory by helping them when they called for aid had earned me a reputation for being selfish and greedy. I had never cared about their opinions before, but now their hatred could be weaponized against me.
This engagement had been planned long before I took over as Alpha. My father had agreed to the alliance, and they had spent years molding Viviana into exactly the kind of woman they thought I would want. Every detail had been calculated, every move orchestrated. None of them would let me walk away from this arrangement without a
war.
Hours dragged by with painful slowness. Viviana paraded around the party, showing off the diamond ring she had chosen for herself, playing the perfect bride–to–be with practiced ease. The performance was flawless, and it made my skin crawl.
The alcohol flowed freely, leading to the usual pack party drama of giggling women and drunk men looking for fights. I endured it all with gritted teeth until Jett’s voice cut through the mind link.
“Alpha, can you meet me out front?”
I seized the opportunity, slipping away from the crowd and walking around to the front of the house where Jett waited on the stairs.
One look at him sent ice through my veins. His clothes were ripped, blood trickled
from a split lip, and a dark bruise was forming around his left eye.
“Where is Elena?” The question came out as a growl.
“She’s gone. Took my car and disappeared.”
