Chapter 162: 162/The Calm Before the Storm

Chapter 162

Don Morgan’s Point of View

I couldn’t believe Robert had grown this much. To me, he was like a son once, but his father, Thomas, ruined everything with his own hands. I could never forgive Thomas for what he did to me, and I will take my revenge on him and his son without mercy.

The moment he told me he had recovered the shipment from me, I was shocked at first, my facial muscles tightening. But at the same time, a surge of euphoria rushed through my veins; this is exactly the kind of enemy I want one capable of standing before me and facing me with such courage and brilliance.

"Yes, Don, as you heard... I’ve taken my shipment back from you," Robert said, adjusting his coat collar with a provocative coldness.

I looked at him intently, resting my chin on my interlaced hands above the desk. "So, you came just to see my reaction when I found out?"

"Yes," he replied with a lopsided smile full of triumph. "I wanted to see your face."

I laughed softly, shaking my head as a genuine sense of amusement crept into my heart. "Very well, Robert... you know the fun has only just begun."

"Yes, and I’m ready for it," he said, putting his hands in his pockets with poise. "My life is quite boring at the moment."

"Congratulations on recovering your shipment," I said with mock solemnity, gesturing toward him.

At this point, Carlos spoke up with a tone that carried a clear warning as he prepared to stand. "I hope you realize, Don, that we are not enemies who are easily defeated."

I smiled at him, though the smile didn’t reach my lead-grey eyes. "I don’t doubt that, Carlos."

They both stood with military dignity. Robert spoke his final words before turning away: "We’ll meet again."

"Of course we will," I replied with calm confidence.

I watched them as they strode out of the office with pride, letting them enjoy this small victory; for the Great Game had not yet begun. I tilted my leather chair toward the large glass window overlooking the city lights and whispered with a voice full of menace, "Oh, Robert... if only you knew what I have in store for you."

Carlos’s Point of View

We got into the car, and I let out a long breath I had been holding throughout that charged confrontation. I turned to Robert, who had his hands on the steering wheel with an irritating calmness, as if we had just been on a stroll.

"Oh! We actually got the shipment back from the Don!" I said with an excitement I couldn’t suppress.

"Yes, we did," Robert replied coldly, starting the engine.

I tapped the dashboard lightly, saying in awe, "The Don, whom no one dares to cross... and we stood right in his face!"

Robert gave a cryptic, lopsided smile, looking at me for a moment before driving off into the glowing city streets. "Don’t celebrate too much, Carlos. You know the Don is preparing a new strike right now."

I leaned back against the leather seat. "Let’s be happy now... and worry later," I said comfortably.

His voice sharpened, and his grip tightened on the wheel. "We have to attack him, Carlos."

I looked at him in surprise. "What?"

"We need to find a plan to strike back before he does," he continued, his eyes fixed sternly on the road ahead.

"What are you thinking of?" I asked curiously, watching his stoic features.

"Nothing for now," he replied curtly, shaking his head. "But I’ll find something."

Wanting to break the tension that had settled over us again, I said cheerfully, "Let’s go to the bar for a few drinks."

Robert finally smiled, his features appearing more relaxed. "Which one?"
