My Harvest Skill for Wasteland Survival novel Chapter 44

Chapter 44 The Sweet Potato Surprise

Reina hacked through a few vines, shoved them aside, and finally found the thick main root

She grabbed it and pulled, but it wouldn’t budge.

So she dug around it. Under the soil, a huge dark purple root was exposed.

She scanned it with her smartwatch. Contamination Value: 380. Extremely high contamination. No wonder nobody had dug it up.

But Reina had a special Harvesting Ability. No matter how polluted it was, she could turn it into edible ingredients.

She got a little excited. It had been a long time since she’d had roasted sweet potatoes. No way she was missing this.

She took out a low-grade energy recovery potion and drank it. After a moment, only 2 Energy was recovered.

Reina frowned. Looks like low-grade potions don’t work for me anymore.

She reached out and used her ability.

Ding! “Energy -1. Harvest successful. EXP +10. You obtained a Level 2 mutant sweet potato. Contamination value: 9. Slightly purifies demonic energy contamination when consumed.”

Reina was surprised.

So after her Energy passed 30, she could pull out a no contamination ingredient in one go from an extremely contaminated mutant plant, and it even came with a special effect. What a huge win.

She patted the large, red-skinned potato, her heart full of joy.

She grabbed the vines and lifted them to test the weight. Over 100 pounds.

A sweet potato that big could probably be turned into all kinds of dishes.

Reina carried it back and set it inside the house.

“Whoa! Where did that sweet potato come from?” Ursula and the others were shocked.

Then they checked it with a smartwatch, and their eyes instantly went wide.

“Oh my gosh! No contamination! Reina, where did you find this?”

Reina pointed outside. “There’s a sweet potato patch out there. I found it there.”

“No way!”

Ursula couldn’t believe it. “That place is full of highly contaminated ones. Just getting close to them can make you sick. How could there be a no contamination sweet potato?

Chapter 44 The Sweet Potato Surprise

“And wild sweet potatoes are usually mutated. They’re usually as fibrous as old tree roots. They’re basically inedible.”

Reina didn’t explain. She grabbed a knife and started peeling.

The pale reddish flesh was revealed instantly. When she poked it, juice came out. Everyone was dumbstruck.

Reina cut a few pieces and handed them out. “Try it. See how it tastes.”

They took a bite. Crunch.

Sweet, smooth, almost like fruit.

Maggie, who had been dozing off on a backpack, woke up and hopped over to join the fun. When no one paid attention, it chirped loudly.

Reina ended up cutting a handful of sweet potato cubes and putting them in a bowl in the backpack so it could eat.

They were still eating when voices came from outside.

“Hey, looks like someone’s here. Let’s check it out.”

Footsteps got closer. A group of survivors walked in.

They were carrying weapons and backpacks, and one was pulling a cart piled high with luggage.

Reina stood at the door and immediately recognized the blond-haired guy.

He saw her too, and then spotted Ursula behind her. His eyes lit up, and he rushed over.

“Ursula! We’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

Another guy followed, looking angry. “Where’s my brother? You think running away solves anything? If you don’t hand over those 50,000 points today, none of you are leaving peacefully!”

“Who owes you points?” Ursula snapped back, her disgust for this family growing by the second. “I earned that with my life. Why should I give it to you?”

“How do you not owe us?” a woman jumped in. “Who cooked all your food and drinks? Besides, aren’t we family? We’re all out here struggling together. Why do you get to keep the points to yourself while we do all the work?”

Ursula laughed in disbelief. “What exactly did you do? Cooking and cleaning? My husband and I risk our lives to earn points to support seven of you. And we can’t even eat a bowl of oatmeal you made?

“Yesterday, the moment my husband got hurt, you all started acting like jerks. You wouldn’t even give him food. And you followed me around, afraid I’d spend money on medicine.
