Chapter 45 Greed Turns Deadly
The young man’s wife shouted from behind, “Beat her to death! Evil woman! Take her smartwatch!”
The young man’s eyes turned cold as he scanned Reina’s group-six people, four women and two men. Two; of them were injured.
Screw it. Why not just kill them? If we take their smartwatches, we’ll get rich.
With that, he made up his mind. He suddenly activated his Level 2 Speed Ability and rushed straight at Reina, knife in hand.
He wanted a one-shot kill to take out the biggest threat first. After that, what could the rest of them do?
Reina had been watching the drama when she suddenly felt a surge of killing intent. She saw the young man charging at her with a sharp dagger, moving at what he probably thought was top speed.
But to her, a Level 2 ability user was moving like a sloth. Everything he did looked slow and clumsy.
In the blink of an eye, she kicked him straight in the chest. He flew back and slammed into the wall several yards away.
He stuck to the wall for a split second before sliding down into a limp heap, motionless.
The yard went deathly silent.
“Ahhh! Murder!”
His wife screamed and ran toward him, but tripped over something and fell forward. Her palms landed right on her husband’s sunken chest. She let out another bloodcurdling scream.
Others rushed over. When they saw blood leaking from his nose and mouth and realized he wasn’t breathing, they covered their mouths in terror.
“Terry! This is bad, Warren’s dead!”
“Terry! Warren is dead! He’s really dead! Waaah!”
The women scrambled back, staring at Reina with pure terror.
Reina looked at Merrick and said calmly, “He attacked me first.”
“I know. He deserved it,” Merrick said, looking exhausted.
Warren Grisham was his half-brother from the same father, while Terry, the second, shared the same mother as him. Now the brothers had turned against each other. When he got back, his stepmother would definitely cause a scene.
But it didn’t matter anymore. He had already decided to cut ties. Worst case, they never spoke again.
Ursula looked at them with disgust and said to Reina, loud enough for everyone to hear, “This isn’t your fault. Warren brought this on himself. We all saw it. He came at you with a knife. That animal! He wanted to kill all of us just for 50,000 points.”

Seeing Reina stay quiet, she added, “If they keep causing trouble, we’ll kill them all.”
She made sure to say it loud, so everyone in the yard could hear.
Everyone went silent. Even the crying got quieter.
Reina glanced at Ursula but said nothing, then turned and walked back inside.
She didn’t like being used as a weapon, but right now, their side was outnumbered. A little infimidation w
necessary.
Chloe and Dylan followed her in, gripping their machetes, watching the people outside.
At the door, Merrick and Ursula faced Terry. “You should leave, You’re not welcome here.”
Terry’s face twisted with rage. His fists clenched.
But thinking about Reina-the woman who killed without hesitation-his anger faded. His tone softened. “Merrick, Warren’s already like that. I don’t want to argue anymore. But it’s getting dark. Where are we supposed to go?”
“That’s not my problem. Go wherever you want, just stay away from us,” Merrick said, hardening his heart as he turned to walk away.
Terry panicked and stepped forward to block him. “Don’t be this cold-hearted. I’m your real brother.”
“Real brother?” Merrick sneered. “You didn’t act like we were brothers when I became ‘useless’ to you.
“Terry, stop pretending. From today on, we go our separate ways. I took care of you for over ten years. I can’t do it anymore. Let’s end it here.”
He looked desolate. “My wife and I are both injured. We can’t make a living anymore. That 50,000 points- she risked her life for it. It has nothing to do with you.
“If you’ve got any conscience left-if you remember how I raised you after Mom died-then stop pushing
us.”
Tears fell as he spoke.
