Lily had been calm since morning. When she woke up, the first thing she did was check the news. As expected, not a single report showed what really happened last night at the gala.
The only headlines screaming across the screens were about David Hardison and Marina Laurent "the power couple".
Photos of them together, Marina’s hand looped around his arm, her sweet smiles, David’s stiff but present acknowledgment.
Another headline showed Lily and Jabco together, stepping out of the car, his hand on her waist.
The media called it “The mysterious woman with Jabco Grey , new love story?”
Not even a shadow of her giving back the ring to David was mentioned.
She smirked faintly.
“Of course. He can’t afford to risk Marina’s image,” she whispered to herself. “He must have buried the whole thing.”
It was fine. She didn’t care. That man was no longer her concern.
She had already contacted her lawyer. The divorce papers were ready. All she needed now was David’s signature.
Her only focus now was getting her life back on her own track.
That evening, after finishing work, she realized she still had time before going home. Noah’s birthday was coming up, and Lily wanted to buy her a dress. Noah had been mentioning a certain brand’s new season design again and again.
“This mall has it,” Lily thought, and walked in.
Taking the elevator straight to the designer clothing floor, she was greeted warmly by a salesperson.
“Good evening, miss. Do you have any particular design in mind?”
“Yes,” Lily nodded, taking out her phone and showing a photo of the gown Noah had been eyeing.
“This one. Do you still have it?”
The salesperson’s smile turned apologetic.
“I’m very sorry, miss. That particular gown is limited edition. Someone already reserved it through our store.”
“Oh…” Lily’s eyes dimmed a little with disappointment.
“Alright, thank you anyway.”
She turned to leave, when suddenly a too-familiar voice rang behind her.
“Well, well. Look who it is.”
Lily froze, her steps halting. She slowly turned her head.
There, standing proudly at the cashier’s desk, was Marina with her assistant. She was handing over a sleek black card to the cashier.
Lily’s eyes narrowed instantly. She knew that card.
David’s unlimited black card.
“Miss Lily, you’re still young and beautiful. Why cling to a man who doesn’t love you? You’d be better off letting go and finding someone else.”
Lily’s head snapped toward her, eyes sharp, voice steady.
“I have no intention of clinging to someone like David.”
She reached into her bag calmly, pulled out a folded document, and lifted it right in front of Marina.
“This is the divorce agreement. If you’re so powerful, why don’t you make him sign it and send it back to me? After that, you can do whatever you want.”
The paper was practically thrown into Marina’s face.
For the first time, Marina’s expression cracked. She hadn’t expected Lily to shove the papers at her like that.
“You....” she hissed.
“What?” Lily tilted her head, eyes gleaming with mockery. “Cat got your tongue?”
Marina’s fingers trembled as she snatched the papers away, her nails digging into the sheets.
“Fine. I’ll send them back to you once he signs.”
Lily smirked.
“Good. Then stop pretending to be worried about me, Marina. We both know you’re not.”
