My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 154

Lily didn’t have an answer, nor did she care to find one. “I’m starving,” she said instead, pushing herself up.

“Let’s order takeout.”

They spent the evening together, talking over boxes of noodles and cold drinks. For a while, Lily managed to laugh, and the tightness in her chest eased. By the time she finished venting everything that had been building inside her, she felt lighter, like the storm inside her had finally begun to quiet.

But still, one thought lingered. David wouldn’t stop. She could see it in his eyes. And she was right, somewhere out there, he was already planning his next move.

That night, afraid he might call again, Lily switched off her phone before going to bed. She wanted silence, no messages, no interruptions, and definitely no more of David Hardison.

For once, she just wanted to sleep in peace.

“You drive. I’m tired,” Noah said the next morning, tossing the car keys toward Lily as they got ready to leave for work.

Lily caught them with a frown. “Why me? You can drive yourself.”

Noah stretched, stifling a yawn. “You know I was preparing that draft all night. I need a nap in the car.”

Lily let out a small sigh, shaking her head. “Fine,” she muttered, slipping the keys into her bag before walking out of the room. Noah followed behind, still half-asleep, mumbling something about needing coffee before she could function.

The morning air was crisp as they stepped outside. Lily pressed the unlock button, and the car beeped softly. She slid into the driver’s seat while Noah settled comfortably in the passenger side, already adjusting her seat to recline.

“Wake me up when we get there,” Noah murmured, eyes fluttering shut.

The morning air was still crisp, sunlight spilling through the windshield as Lily started the engine, glancing once at her friend before pulling onto the road. “You’re unbelievable,” she muttered under her breath but despite herself, a faint smile tugged at her lips.

The city was waking up people rushing, cars honking, streets buzzing with their usual rhythm. Lily’s eyes flicked between the road and the rearview mirror as she merged into traffic.

For a while, everything was normal. Noah dozed off beside her, head tilted toward the window, one hand clutching her phone loosely. Lily kept her focus on the road, letting the soft music fill the silence. But after a few turns, something caught her eye.

A black car sleek, tinted, familiar in shape. It had been behind them since they left their apartment. She didn’t think much of it at first; it was rush hour, and cars were everywhere. But after several more minutes, her brows furrowed.

She turned left at the intersection. The black car turned left too.

She took another random right, pretending she had missed the road. The car followed again.

Lily’s grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly. She exhaled slowly and checked the side mirror another car, white this time, seemed to be following from a little distance behind the black one.

Lily didn’t look convinced. “Two cars, Noah? At the same time? Doesn’t that seem strange to you?”

Noah gave a lazy shrug. “Coincidence, maybe. This is the city, Lily. Not everything that follows you means you’re being stalked. what's wrong with you?"

Lily stayed quiet but didn’t feel any better. The cars kept the same distance, not overtaking, not falling behind too far, just close enough.

She turned into another lane, one that wouldn’t normally be part of their route. The cars adjusted too, slow but steady. Her gut twisted.

Something wasn’t right.

She clenched the steering wheel tighter. Maybe it was her overthinking. Maybe she was just paranoid because of everything that had happened recently David showing up everywhere, his sudden possessive behavior, his unpredictability. She wouldn’t be surprised if he had hired people to follow her around just to see where she was going.

Her lips pressed into a thin line.

Noah, half awake again, mumbled, “You’re being too suspicious. Maybe they’re just going to the same area.”

“Yeah,” Lily said softly, though her tone lacked conviction. She kept her eyes glued to the road.
