My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 156

He turned his phone on silent but kept checking it every two minutes, like an idiot. His jaw tightened. Maybe she didn’t see it yet. Maybe she was still sleeping.

Even when he got to his seat in first class, he checked again. Still nothing.

Roy was storing their bags overhead when David’s phone vibrated slightly, his heartbeat jumped but it was only a message from Marina.

His lips pressed together.

He stared at the chat again. The small “Seen” mark never appeared.

By the time the flight attendants were announcing takeoff, his patience had already started to crack. He stared out the window, the blue sky reflecting faintly on the glass, but all he could think about was Lily.

Was she ignoring him on purpose?

Was she still with Jabco?

The thought made something ugly burn inside his chest. He unlocked his phone again, fingers trembling slightly, and pressed her name. The line started to ring.

Once. Twice.

Then a cold, robotic voice echoed in his ear.

“The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.”

He frowned, tried again. The same voice repeated.

His heart skipped a beat. Something didn’t sound right. It wasn’t the usual out-of-service tone. He listened again carefully. The tone wasn’t from the network,g it was from the phone’s system.

Then it hit him.

She hadn’t ignored him.

She had blocked him.

David froze. His hand clenched around the phone so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

Blocked.

She actually blocked him.

The muscles in his jaw ticked as he stared blankly at the seat in front of him. The blood in his veins felt like it was boiling.

She dare to block him?

She could go buy gifts for another man right in front of him. She could smile like nothing happened. She could tell him she was having a dinner date and he still held back. He swallowed his pride, stayed silent, didn’t even make a scene.

But now this?

She blocked him as if he was a stranger. As if he was nothing.

His grip on the phone tightened until it almost cracked.

All kinds of thoughts began to spiral in his head, fast and dark.

What if she was with Jabco right now? What if she went to his house? What if she laughed with him the way she used to laugh with him once upon a time?

What if she fell in love again with someone else?

The thought clawed at his chest like fire. His heart pounded so hard he felt it might break his ribs.

He shut his eyes, leaning his head back against the seat, but the images wouldn’t stop, Lily smiling at another man, Lily leaning close to him, Lily whispering something softly, Lily in someone else’s arms.

He couldn’t breathe.

The entire eight-hour flight passed in silence. The hum of the engine was the only sound between him and Roy. Occasionally, the flight attendants would pass by, offering drinks or meals, but David refused everything.

He just sat there, staring blankly at his phone screen, hoping maybe she’d unblock him, maybe she’d send a message.

But there was nothing.

When the plane finally landed, David didn’t even wait for the seatbelt sign to turn off. The moment he could, he turned on his phone again and dialed her number.

The same voice came again, cold, mechanical.

“The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.”

He tried again. And again.

Same result.

Roy glanced at him uneasily. “Sir, is everything alright?”

David didn’t answer. His face was expressionless, but his eyes were sharp and cold. He shoved the phone into his pocket, stood up, and grabbed his bag.

He walked out of the plane with long strides, the tension in his shoulders visible even from behind.

Inside, he was boiling.

She blocked him.

Fine.

But she wouldn’t get away with it.

Not this time.
