Lily stood hidden behind a wall, heart pounding like drums in her chest. The street was quiet, only the sound of wind and distant cars filled the air. She peeked out once more, her breath fogging in the cold night. The black car was still there. It didn’t move. No lights. Just sitting like some predator waiting for her to make a move.
She gritted her teeth and tightened her grip on her clothes. She wasn’t going to be afraid. Not now. Not again.
She waited a little longer, and then, after convincing herself it might just be a parked car, she stepped out from the shadows slowly. But before she could take more than two steps....
A tall figure suddenly appeared in front of her from behind another car.
“Ahhhhhh!”
Lily screamed from the bottom of her soul, but before the sound could even properly leave her mouth, a large hand slapped over her lips. She was slammed into a hard chest. Her body stiffened in terror, and her heart almost stopped.
“Don’t scream,” a familiar low voice rumbled in her ears.
That voice. That scent. That warmth.
Lily opened her eyes slowly and blinked up.
Her entire expression turned to fury the moment she saw that arrogant, cold face.
“DAVID?! Are you serious right now? What the hell are you doing, stalking me like some creep?” she hissed, pushing against his chest, but he didn’t move.
David’s eyes were dark and unreadable. “You think I’ll let you run around with some random rich bastard and ruin my reputation? No chance.”
Lily scoffed and finally shoved him away. “Ruin your reputation? You think tailing me at night like some sick pervert is helping your reputation? Who do you think you are?"
David smirked, but his eyes were like ice. “I'm your husband. Sign the divorce papers and you’re free. Until then, you’re still my wife. And I don’t like my wife being followed by mysterious luxury cars.”
“Oh please, just sign the damn papers yourself then!” she snapped.
David stepped closer, his voice low and almost threatening. “You think you can just run away and decide on your own? You think I’ll let you walk away without facing the consequences of challenging me?” He leaned in, face inches from hers. “I’m the only one who gets to decide when our marriage ends.”
Lily glared at him, her entire body burning with rage. “You’re insane.”
He smiled darkly. “You hooked up with me first, Lily. Remember? I never pretended to be a good man. I never promised you love. But you made the mistake of thinking you could throw me away without a price.”
His presence was overwhelming. His eyes bored into her soul, and Lily actually took a step back. But she didn’t let her voice waver.
“I’ll find a way to get the money,” she said. “I’ll get thirty million if that’s what it takes. I’ll earn it, borrow it, or even beg for it, but I’ll get out of this hell you call marriage. One way or another.”
David’s smile turned cruel. He reached out, grabbing her by the throat—not tightly, but firm enough to scare her.
“You think I’ll let you crawl into another man’s bed?” he growled. “If someone touches you, I’ll break his neck first. Then I’ll fuck you so hard you’ll forget your own name, before I dump you on the street.”
Lily gasped, not because of fear—but because of how raw his words were. She should’ve felt terrified. Any normal woman would be shaking. But her body reacted in the worst possible way—her heart skipped, her legs trembled, and a strange heat pooled inside her.
She hated him. Hated him more than anything. But the way he looked at her, like she belonged to him and no one else ever could, shook her in a different way.
