My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 222

“If you’re here for your son, then go wake him,” Lily said. Her voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

She poured milk into the blender and opened the refrigerator for chocolate syrup. Danish loved chocolate milkshake. She made it every morning when she had time.

David hesitated.

“Have you told him?” he asked. “Does he know I’m his father?”

“No,” she said. “He doesn’t know. But you can tell him.”

David almost flinched.

“That’s not my responsibility,” he said too fast. “You’re his mother. Shouldn’t you tell him? What if he gets shocked?”

Lily looked over her shoulder and saw the tiny panic in his eyes.

She couldn’t help it.

A small laugh slipped out.

She stirred the milk.

“Oh. Mr. Hardison is nervous to talk to his own son.”

David’s ears turned slightly red.

“I’m not nervous,” he said, looking away.

Lily raised a brow. “Sure.”

He didn’t argue.

He just stood there, hands in his pockets, trying to look collected.

But Lily could clearly see the truth.

He was afraid his son wouldn’t accept him.

And that fear alone made something in her heart soften, even though she didn’t want it to.

She could feel David’s eyes still on her, heavy like always. She tried to ignore it and focus on mixing the milk.

Her hands moved fast but her mind was running even faster. She was already late for her meeting, Danish was still sleeping, and now David was standing in her kitchen early in the morning acting like nothing had changed in seven years.

Before she could say another word her phone, which she had left on the table, began to vibrate. The sound cut through the quiet kitchen.

She glanced toward it, but David reached the phone with his eyes first. She saw his whole body tighten. His shoulders went stiff. His jaw locked so hard she thought it might crack. The screen kept lighting up again and again from the vibration.

Jabco.

Lily didn’t even blink. She didn’t owe David anything. Seven years was not a small time. She wasn’t his wife anymore. He had no right to look at her like that.

She walked to the table and picked up the phone. David’s stare burned on the side of her face, but she acted like she didn’t notice a thing.

She answered the call right in front of him.

“What a pleasant surprise. Mr. Grey is calling me this early,” she said, her voice calm, even a little playful.

David stepped closer, his anger rising too fast for him to pull it back. In two steps he was right in front of her. Before Lily could move away his hand shot out, gripping her waist, pulling her closer.

“David, let me go,” she snapped, trying to push him back. But he only tightened his grip.

Their faces were suddenly inches apart. She could feel his breath. She could see the small tremble in his jaw. She could see his eyes burning with something she didn’t want to name. She hated how her heart still reacted. She hated her body for remembering him.

“You are my son’s mother,” he said, voice low, almost shaking. “You are my wife. How can it not be my business? You think I’ll just stand still and watch you walk around with other men?”

Lily pushed at his chest again. “I’m not your wife anymore.”

He ignored her words and stared straight into her eyes. “You really think I’m going to let you go again? After you came back? After you brought my son to me yourself? You should not have come back, Lily. I told you last night. You’ll regret it.”

Before she could open her mouth, he moved.

He grabbed her face with one hand, firm, unthinking, and crushed his mouth onto hers.

It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t gentle. It wasn’t even a kiss. It was anger. Hunger. Frustration. Seven years of held-back feelings smashing together.

Lily froze for half a second, pure shock stopping her breath. Then her mind snapped back. She shoved him as hard as she could.

A loud slap echoed through the kitchen.

David’s head turned slightly with the impact. A red mark spread across his cheek.

He didn’t step back.

He didn’t even blink.
