Meanwhile, At the Grey Corpuration.
Jabco was halfway to his private elevator when the voices reached him.
“Did you see Secretary Riyana’s post last night?”
He slowed without meaning to.
“Yes. I saw it,” another woman replied, excitement clear in her voice. “She looked… wow. I’ve never seen her like that. No black pants. No jacket.”
“If I were a man, I would’ve fallen in love on the spot,” the first one laughed.
Jabco’s steps paused for just a second.
Riyana’s post?
He kept his face blank and continued walking as if he hadn’t heard a thing, but his mind was already caught. Riyana had a social media account? Since when? He had never once seen her scrolling through a phone for herself. She handled his accounts, his schedule, his public image. Her phone was always work, work, work.
He stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for his floor. The doors slid shut, sealing him in silence.
Beautiful?
Out of black pants and jacket?
His jaw tightened slightly.
The elevator moved, but his thoughts stayed behind. What kind of post could make the office talk like that? And why did it bother him more than it should?
The doors opened.
As soon as he stepped out, he saw her.
Riyana was standing outside his office, tablet in hand, posture straight, expression calm as ever.
“Good morning, Mr. Grey,” she said, professional and composed.
Jabco stopped.
His eyes moved over her slowly, from her face to her shoes, then back up again.
Same black pants. Same fitted jacket. Hair tied neatly. No makeup beyond the usual light touch.
Nothing was different.
Yet his gaze lingered longer than usual.
Riyana noticed.
Her fingers tightened slightly around the tablet. “Mr. Grey,” she asked carefully, “is something wrong?”
Jabco blinked, realizing what he was doing. He straightened, his expression closing off.
“No,” he said shortly and walked past her into the office.
Riyana frowned.
That was strange.
He never looked at her like that. Not like he was searching for something that wasn’t there.
She followed him inside, shutting the door behind her. “Your first meeting is at ten. The board presentation files are ready, and.....”
“Riyana.”
She stopped mid-sentence.
“Yes, sir?”
He loosened his tie slightly and walked to his desk, pretending to review some documents. “Do you… use social media?”
The question was casual, but his tone wasn’t.
Riyana froze for half a second before answering. “For work. Managing your accounts.”
“And personal?” he asked without looking up.
There was a pause.
“…Sometimes,” she admitted.
Jabco finally lifted his eyes.
“Sometimes,” he repeated. “Interesting.”
Her brows knit together. “Is there a problem?”
He leaned back in his chair, studying her face. “No problem. Just surprised.”
Riyana hesitated, then spoke honestly. “I don’t use it often. Just...an exception.”
“An exception?” he asked.
Jabco’s jaw tightened. His expression changed, sharp and closed off in an instant.
“I see,” he said flatly.
He glanced back down at the file, as if she no longer mattered. “You can go.”
Riyana stood there for a second longer than necessary. She wanted to say something. Anything. But she didn’t know what.
“Yes, sir,” she said quietly.
She turned and walked out.
The door closed with a soft click.
Silence filled the office.
Jabco leaned back in his chair, staring at the wall in front of him, not really seeing it.
It was good.
That was all she said.
He ran a hand over his face and let out a slow breath.
Why did that bother him?
Why did the idea of her sitting across from another man, smiling, talking, laughing… make his chest feel tight?
He had spent the entire day restless. Meetings had annoyed him. Work had felt slow. And when night came, he had called her without thinking.
She didn’t answer.
Not once.
He closed his eyes briefly.
(Hi my loves,
From this chapter onward, I’m adding the second couple’s story. I know this turn came a bit suddenly, so I’m really sorry about that. But I truly believe you’re going to love Jabco and Riyana just as much as Lily and David.
While writing, I felt like Jabco deserved his own story too, and that’s how this came to be. I hope you’ll give them the same love and patience you’ve shown so far.
Thank you so much for supporting this story till here. It honestly means more to me than I can say.)
