My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 302

At the apartment, David woke up to the sound of laughter.

It took a few seconds for his mind to catch up. The bed beside him was empty. Lily wasn’t there. The curtains were slightly open, morning light spilling into the room, but what really pulled him awake was the sound. Children laughing. Running. Talking over each other.

He frowned slightly and sat up.

That was strange.

There was only one child in the house. His son.

David swung his legs off the bed and walked out quickly, his steps light but alert. As he opened the door, the laughter grew louder, clearer.

A child’s voice that wasn’t Danish’s echoed through the living room.

He stopped mid-step.

What he saw made him freeze.

Danish was running across the living room, laughing loudly, a small doll clutched in his hand. Behind him, a little girl chased him with short, hurried steps, her hair bouncing as she ran.

“D!” she shouted, her voice full of protest. “You can’t take my doll!”

Danish laughed even harder, darting away just as she reached for him. He jumped onto the sofa, holding the doll high above his head.

“Nini, catch me!” he teased. “If you catch me, I’ll give it back!”

The little girl stomped her foot in frustration, then climbed onto the sofa after him, determined.

David stood there, stunned.

His eyes moved from the kids to the kitchen.

Lily was standing there, calm and unhurried, pouring chocolate smoothie into a glass.

She looked relaxed, almost peaceful, as if this was the most normal thing in the world.

David walked toward her slowly.

“You’re awake?” Lily asked, turning her head and smiling when she saw him.

It wasn’t a small smile. It was warm. Natural.

Before he could say anything, she spoke again, as if she already knew what was going through his head.

“Noah had some work,” she said casually. “So she left Nini here for the morning.”

She placed the glass on the counter, then reached for another.

David didn’t respond right away.

He just watched her.

Since she had come back, this was the first morning that felt like this. Lily in the kitchen. Making breakfast. No tension. No distance. No sharp words or guarded expressions.

“What’s wrong?” Lily asked, noticing his silence. She wiped her hands on a towel and turned fully toward him.

David took a few long steps forward.

Before Lily could react, his hand slipped around the back of her neck and he kissed her.

It was sudden.

Lily froze for a second, surprised, her hands still resting on the counter. Then she melted into it, responding instinctively, her body leaning toward his.

Between the kiss, she mumbled, half-scolding, half-breathless, “The kids might see us… what are you doing?”

But even as she said it, she kissed him back just as deeply.

David felt something loosen inside his chest.

She wasn’t pulling away.

She wasn’t turning her face aside.

She wasn’t trying to escape him.

That alone was enough to overwhelm him.

He pulled back slightly and wrapped his arms around her, holding her close, his forehead resting against hers.

For the first time in a long while, the house felt warm. Alive. Like a family home again.

“Can you drop me at Northstar?” Lily asked as David picked up his keys.

He paused and looked at her. “I thought you don’t have work today.”

“I don’t,” she replied, slipping into her coat.

“But I just got a call from the office. Something’s wrong. I'll tell you on the way"

David studied her face for a moment, reading the concern there. “Alright,” he said finally.

“I’ll bring the kids with me,” Lily added, reaching for her bag.

David nodded.

He turned toward the living room. “Come on,” he called. “Let’s go.”

Danish jumped up immediately, excitement written all over his face. Nini followed him closely, still holding her doll, her small steps quick as she hurried to keep up.

Lily locked the door behind them and followed.

They got into the car. David settled into the driver’s seat, the kids in the back, Lily beside him.

As the car pulled onto the road, Lily took out her phone.

She hesitated for a second, then dialed.

The line rang.

Once.

Twice.

Her fingers tightened slightly around the phone as she waited.

“Riyana,” Lily murmured under her breath, her eyes fixed on the road ahead. “Please pick up.”

She pressed the phone closer to her ear, uneasiness slowly spreading through her chest as the call continued to ring.
