My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 310

Riyana could feel his gaze on her face, on her profile, on the way she avoided looking at him. It made her skin prickle. She focused on the elevator doors, willing them to open faster.

The doors finally slid open with a soft sound.

She stepped inside. Jabco followed, still not letting go of her hand.

The doors closed.

The small space made everything feel closer.

“If you get late again,” Jabco said suddenly, his voice low, controlled, “you can call me. So you don’t have to come back in another man’s car.”

Riyana felt the tension underneath his words. He was trying to sound reasonable, but jealousy was clearly there.

“It was the first day,” she replied, her voice steady. “I gave extra time.”

“If that’s the case, you should have called me,” he said. “Not ignored my calls.”

“I didn’t ignore them,” she corrected calmly. “I didn’t see them.”

He turned his head and looked straight at her now. His eyes searched her face, as if trying to decide whether to believe her or not.

“You could have called back as soon as you saw them,” he said.

“I didn’t want to argue on the phone,” she answered honestly. “I knew you’d be angry.”

“And you think I’m not angry now?” he asked.

She finally looked up at him. Really looked at him.

“I think,” she said slowly, “you’d be angry no matter what.”

That stopped him.

For a moment, he said nothing. His jaw tightened, the muscle ticking slightly. He looked away, staring at the elevator numbers as they changed.

“You’re married,” he said after a pause. “You shouldn’t be coming home this late with another man.”

“And you shouldn’t be controlling every second of my life,” she shot back without hesitation.

The words hung in the air.

The elevator continued moving, quiet and slow, while tension thickened between them. They stood facing each other, hands still joined, yet emotionally miles apart.

Finally, Jabco let out a sharp breath.

“Alright,” he said suddenly. “Fine.”

Riyana blinked, surprised.

“I won’t ask anything,” he continued, his tone restrained. “But can’t you at least tell me who you’re working for?”

She stared at him for a second.

That was it?

No shouting. No threats. No cold orders.

He had… given up?

She didn’t know why, but the change unsettled her more than his anger would have.

“I’m working as an art instructor,” she said slowly, choosing her words carefully. “For actor Lennox Ardolf.”

His brows lifted slightly, but he didn’t interrupt.

“I told you about my professor,” she went on. “This work came through him. Lennox is preparing for a film. His new character is related to art. John went to the professor first, and the professor recommended me.”

The elevator slowed and stopped.

The doors opened.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then Jabco loosened his grip slightly, but didn’t let go.

“Let’s go,” he said.

Riyana stepped out beside him.

She didn’t know if this calm would last.

Riyana told him about Lennox because she didn’t want secrets between them.

It wasn’t because she owed him an explanation. It was because she didn’t want things to turn ugly later.

His anger.

It wasn’t loud. He wasn’t shouting. But it was there, rising slowly, pressing against the walls of the apartment. It sent a chill down her neck.

“You knew how this would work from the start,” he said.

Riyana closed her eyes for a brief moment.

“And you knew I had my own life,” she replied. “This is part of it.”

Riyana could feel his anger building even without looking at him. A cold shiver ran down her neck. Still, she decided to test how much patience he had left. She knew that if she stayed calm and acted innocent, he would listen to her.

More than anything, she did not want to move into his house. His family had a bad habit of showing up without warning, and if they saw her there, trouble would follow. She was not ready to face them, not when she was still unsure about her relationship with Jabco. They only needed one excuse to go after him, and if they found out about her marriage to him, they would use it against him. She could not allow that to happen.

Jabco took a step forward.

“This place is too small,” he said. “And it’s not safe.”

She turned slightly, just enough to glance at him.

“I’ve lived here for years,” she said. “Nothing happened to me.”

“That’s not the point.”

“I know,” she said quietly. “The point is control.”

His jaw tightened.

“You think I want to control you?”

"Don't you?"

He didn't correct her.

Silence filled the room.

Jabco looked away, his hand clenching slowly at his side. He didn’t deny it. That was answer enough.

“Alright. If this is what you want, then fine,” Jabco finally said.

Riyana froze. Was he really agreeing? She turned fully toward him, staring at his face. It was hard to believe. She did not understand why he was giving in so easily, and that made her even more uneasy.
