My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 345

Lennox was standing a little away from the crowd, tall and calm as always, dressed simply in a dark jacket and jeans. He wasn’t on his phone. He was just standing there, waiting. When his eyes met hers, his expression softened into a small smile.

“Ms. Rivan,” he said as he walked toward her. “You made it.”

“Yes,” she replied. “Your driver was very punctual.”

He smiled slightly. “I’m glad. I wasn’t sure if this was too sudden.”

“It was,” she admitted honestly, then added, “but it's work"

He studied her face for a second, not in a way that felt intrusive, just thoughtful. “If at any point you feel uncomfortable, you can tell me. We can cancel or return. This is work, but your comfort comes first.”

She nodded, appreciating his words more than she showed. “Thank you.”

They walked together toward the check-in counter. As they stood in line, Riyana felt an odd mix of relief and guilt. Relief because she was away from suffocating environment, away from that silence, away from the tension.

Guilt because a small part of her wondered if she was crossing an invisible line.

But then she remembered the news. The picture. The way her chest had burned.

She straightened her shoulders.

I’m allowed to breathe, she told herself. I’m allowed to live.

Once they were through security and seated in the waiting area, Lennox handed her a bottle of water.

“You should keep yourself hydrated,” he said. “You still look a little tired.”

She took the bottle. “I haven’t been sleeping well.”

“I guessed,” he said gently. “You don’t have to explain.”

That simple sentence almost broke her composure. She looked down at the bottle, twisting the cap slowly.

“Thank you,” she said quietly.

They boarded the plane soon after. Riyana took the window seat while Lennox sat beside her. As the plane began to move, she pressed her forehead lightly against the cool glass, watching the lights outside blur into lines.

This was the first time in years she was going somewhere without planning every step for someone else.

When the plane lifted into the air, her stomach fluttered. She placed her hand there instinctively, her lips curving into a faint smile.

“Easy,” she whispered under her breath. “We’re fine.”

Lennox noticed the gesture but said nothing.

During the flight, they spoke little. Lennox reviewed some documents on his tablet. Riyana stared out the window or closed her eyes, letting the steady hum of the plane calm her thoughts.

For the first time in days, her chest didn’t feel tight.

When they landed, it was already dark. The air outside was cooler, cleaner. It smelled different, like trees and open space instead of concrete and traffic.

A car was waiting for them. As they drove away from the airport, Riyana watched the city fade behind them, replaced by quieter roads and scattered lights.

“Where exactly are we going?” she asked softly.

“A small town near the hills,” Lennox replied. “There’s a guesthouse there. Very simple. Very quiet.”

“That sounds nice,” she said, and meant it.

When they arrived, the place was peaceful. The building wasn’t fancy, but it was warm, with soft lights and wooden walls. Someone greeted them politely and showed them to their rooms.

Separate rooms.

Riyana felt a strange sense of relief she hadn’t realized she was holding.

“I’ll see you later on dinner,” Lennox said as they stood in the hallway. “Get some rest.”

“You too,” she replied.

Once inside her room, Riyana set her bag down and sat on the edge of the bed. The silence here was different. It wasn’t heavy. It didn’t press against her chest.

She lay back slowly, staring at the ceiling.
