Riyana didn’t even remember when sleep took her.
One moment she was lying on the bed with her mind full of noise, thoughts chasing each other, fear pressing on her chest. The next moment, everything went quiet.
When she woke up again, the room was dark.
For a second she didn’t understand where she was. Her head felt heavy, her body stiff. Then the faint light from outside the window told her it was already night.
Her throat felt dry.
She glanced at the clock on the bedside table. Past ten.
She pushed herself up slowly, sitting on the bed. Her body felt tired in a deep way, like the tiredness had reached her bones. She looked down and realized she was still wearing the same clothes she had on entire day.
She sighed quietly.
Dragging herself to the wardrobe, she picked a loose top and soft pants and changed quickly. The fabric felt better against her skin, less tight, less suffocating.
She stepped out of her room, planning to get some water.
Her steps stopped suddenly.
Her breath caught in her throat.
Jabco was lying on the sofa so uncomfortably.
One arm was hanging down the side, his head tilted at an awkward angle, his long legs bent in a way that clearly wasn’t meant for sleeping.
He looked exhausted.
For a moment, she just stood there, staring.
Her heart squeezed painfully.
“What am I going to do with you?” she whispered to herself.
She really didn’t know.
No matter how hard she tried to push him away, he stayed. No matter how cold she acted, he didn’t leave. No matter how many walls she built, he kept standing right in front of them.
This wasn’t the Jabco Grey she knew.
The man she knew never begged. Never waited outside closed doors. Never slept on sofas like this. She doesn't even remember now how many times he had done this since they got married..
Why was he going this low?
Why was he making it so hard for her?
She rubbed her face tiredly and walked toward the kitchen.
That’s when she noticed his phone on the table.
The screen lit up suddenly.
She stopped.
Her eyes dropped to it without thinking.
A message preview flashed on the screen.
Rose.
Her heart tightened.
She walked closer and picked up the phone.
The moment she unlocked it, her heart sank.
Message after message.
One after another.
“Mr. Grey, why aren’t you answering my call?”
“I’m in front of your hotel. They are saying you already left?”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Are you with my sister?”
Her fingers trembled slightly as she scrolled.
Then the last message.
“If you don’t answer my text, I’ll tell everyone that I saw you coming out of my sister’s room. You are having an affair.”
Riyana felt like someone had punched her chest.
So Rose had seen him.
That explained everything.
That explained her words in the morning. The fake smile. The sharp provocations. The confidence.
Riyana slowly looked from the phone to the man sleeping on the sofa.
Anger flickered in her eyes.
Then she looked back at the screen.
She checked if Jabco had replied.
Nothing.
She checked the call history.
All missed calls. All from Rose.
Only one answered call.
Last night.
Exactly like he had said.
He hadn’t lied.
He really wasn’t talking to Rose.
A strange sense of relief washed over her, warm and unexpected. It softened something tight inside her chest, even though she tried to ignore it.
She swallowed hard.
Then, without thinking too much, she dialed Rose’s number using Jabco’s phone.
She walked a few steps away, toward the balcony, keeping her voice low.
The call connected almost immediately.
“Mr. Grey, you finally called me back,” Rose’s excited voice came through the phone.
She didn’t get to finish.
His hands were suddenly on her.
One hand slid behind her neck, fingers pressing gently but firmly. The other wrapped around her waist.
Before she could step back, before she could protest, his lips were on hers.
Hard and desperate.
Like he had been starving.
Riyana froze completely. Her body stiffened.
Her mind went empty, like someone had erased every thought.
He kissed her like there was no tomorrow.
Like this was the last chance.
His grip tightened slightly, holding her in place, his warmth surrounding her.
His lips moved against hers with urgency, with frustration, with emotions he had been holding back all day.
Her heart was racing.
Her breath came uneven.
For a moment, she didn’t move.
Didn’t respond.
Didn’t push him away.
Her hands were hanging uselessly at her sides.
After a while Jabco stopped.
He pulled back, breathing heavily, his forehead resting against hers.
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
The room was silent except for their breathing.
His hands were still holding her, but looser now.
“Why did you answer her call?” he asked quietly.
She looked up at him.
“Because she crossed the line,” she said. “And because you didn’t.”
He looked at her carefully.
“You meant it,” he said slowly. “When you said you’re my wife.”
She looked away.
“I said what needed to be said.”
He reached out and gently lifted her chin, forcing her to look at him.
“You didn’t lie,” he said softly. “And you didn’t hesitate.”
