Marina was convinced Lily had set her up. Her eyes burned with anger, and her face twisted in disbelief. She had strutted onto the stage with confidence, expecting to be applauded as the exclusive spokesperson for Aurora’s highly anticipated new line, only for reality to slap her in front of everyone. Instead, she was tied to a second-rate designer’s work. And now, her dream moment had turned into humiliation—all in front of live cameras.
“This isn’t possible! There must be a mistake!” Marina screeched.
The host, caught in the middle of the chaos, tried to smile through the mess. “Miss Laurent, please calm down. Everything has been confirmed with the organizers. The announcement is correct.”
“Correct?” Marina’s voice cracked. “You’re telling me I, Marina Laurent, am not Aurora’s spokesperson? That’s ridiculous! Someone must have tampered with the contract. Who else could it be except her?” She jabbed her finger toward Lily, her voice dripping with venom.
The cameras swiveled, catching Lily where she stood offstage. A murmur ran through the crowd, and online comments exploded on the live feed.
Lily didn’t flinch. She simply crossed her arms over her chest and lifted a brow, meeting Marina’s fury with calm indifference.
The host, sweating, tried again. “Miss, please, for the sake of the event, let’s......”
But Marina was past reason. “She’s behind this! She’s the one who ruined my deal! She’s jealous because David.....”
“Enough.”
The sharp, low voice cut through the noise. Everyone turned to see David rise from his seat, his face dark and cold. His tall figure commanded attention as he strode toward the stage.
The room fell silent. Cameras clicked. All eyes were on him.
When he reached Marina, his expression was stern. “Marina, watch your image.”
Marina blinked at him, startled. “David, but she....”
“Enough,” he repeated, his voice colder. “This is live. If you don’t care about yourself, at least think about the company’s reputation.”
The reminder was like ice water poured over her head. Marina trembled, realizing how far she had lost control. She bit her lip, her face red, and reluctantly handed the mic back to the host. With visible effort, she smoothed her expression and returned to the stage, though the anger still flickered in her eyes.
The event staggered forward, though the atmosphere had clearly shifted.
When it was finally over, David wasted no time. He found Lily waiting by the backstage corridor, her posture relaxed as if she had expected all of this.
“Did you do it?” His voice was sharp, demanding.
Lily turned her head to look at him, a faint smile playing at her lips. “Do what?”
“Don’t play dumb with me.” He stepped closer, his gaze narrowing. “Did you meddle with Marina’s contract?”
She tilted her head, amusement sparking in her eyes. “David, really? You think I’m capable of that?”
His jaw tightened. “Don’t mock me. You’re a scheming woman..you always have been. Marina’s been having nothing but bad luck recently, and somehow you always seem to be standing there watching. Don’t tell me it’s a coincidence.”
“Scheming?” Lily let out a low laugh. “That’s rich, coming from you.”
