Her phone buzzed on the desk.
A text from Claire: Don’t stay too late. You need to rest.
Lily stared at it for a moment, her heart twisting. Claire’s kindness always left her speechless. She didn’t deserve Claire’s trust, not when everything was falling apart like this.
But she couldn’t give up. Not yet.
Lily sat up straighter, running her fingers through her hair. She thought of the model—the face of her Jewelry.
She was their key to keeping their brand visible. If they lost her, the damage would be impossible to repair. Maybe, just maybe, she could convince her to stay.
Lily grabbed her phone, found the model’s number, and called her. She wasn’t surprised when the call went to voicemail. Lily took a deep breath and left a message. “Hi, this is Lily. I know you’re busy, but I’d really appreciate it if we could meet. I’d like to talk. Please. I’ll come to you whenever you’re free.”
She hung up, feeling a knot of anxiety in her stomach.
To her surprise, the model called back twenty minutes later. Her voice was polite but distant. “I can give you half an hour tonight,” she said. “I have a shoot early tomorrow morning.”
“I’ll come to you,” Lily said immediately.
The model gave her the address of a high-end hotel. Lily grabbed her bag and coat, leaving the office behind.
The hotel lobby smelled faintly of roses and expensive perfume. The lighting was soft, golden, making everything feel warm and elegant. Lily felt underdressed in her simple black dress and coat as she approached the front desk.
“I’m here to see Livia,” she told the receptionist.
The woman nodded and made a quick call. A few minutes later, Livia herself appeared.
Livia was breathtaking in person. Even without makeup, her beauty was striking—tall, slender, with silky blonde hair that cascaded over her shoulders like a waterfall. Her skin was flawless, glowing even under the harsh lights of the hotel lobby. She wore an oversized cashmere sweater and leggings, but her elegance was effortless. People in the lobby glanced at her as she walked by, their heads turning in admiration.
“Hi, Lily,” Livia greeted with a polite smile. Her voice was soft, calm, but there was a guardedness in her eyes.
“Thank you for meeting me,” Lily said sincerely.
They walked together to the hotel lounge, where they found a quiet corner. A waiter came by, and Livia ordered tea while Lily asked for water.
“I won’t waste your time,” Lily began. “I know you’ve decided to step back from us, but I wanted to ask… why?”
Livia sighed, leaning back in her chair. “You know why,” she said simply. “I like your products. Your designs are beautiful. But there’s… pressure. it’s risky.”
“Because of David,” Lily said quietly.
