Chapter 38: Entertainment
“My, my, the newlywed lovebirds have finally shown themselves.”
That was Romina’s statement as soon as Lucretius and I showed up in the dining hall with our hands intertwined. This wasn’t my idea, but Lucretius’s. It was right after the maids had finished their business with me that he demanded I should always cling to him until his hand lowered to capture mine.
I almost protested from it, but then, I almost forgot that we had to act lovey–dovey when facing others.
“Our apologies,” Lucretius said, his lips curving into a lopsided smile as he led me to the seat where Lorenzo used to sit. “I can’t get enough of my wife. She’s too beautiful to be let out of the chamben
I nearly glared at him as I could have sworn that I was flustered from his words. It didn’t escape me that Redmund and Lilith were already here and watching our arrival.
Instead, I smiled sweetly and leaned closer. “You flatter me, hubby. But you might make the others jealous if you say such things aloud.”
I felt proud saying that. I was getting more confident now that our relationship was exposed to anyone, and my actions couldn’t be restricted anymore.
His brow slightly lifted, looking surprised that I played along. He drew out a faint smirk that told me he approved.
I could have wished I rolled my eyes. But I had to stop myself not doing that for the sake of our acting for today.
Romina chuckled, her gaze flicking meaningfully between us. “Ah, young love. I suppose the manor can expect late breakfasts and dinners more often now.”
Lucretius only smirked, unfazed. “If it means I get to start the day with her beside me, I’ll gladly make
them wait.”
Heat crept up to my neck again. This man… Why was he feeding Romina some support of teasing us? I knew it was for the act, but for me, it was too much already.
I felt like passing out right now. I could have wished I were buried six feet below the ground from the humiliation I was feeling at this moment.
I shot him a look. But then, I smiled charmingly at Romina. “Well, a husband who refuses to part from his wife is a rare kind of devotion, isn’t it, Romina?”
Romina laughed again, delighted. “Indeed! I can understand you. Even Lorenzo is like that.” She glanced at her mate in mischief, making Lorenzo shake his head, but there was a smile on his lips.
Under the table, Lucretius’s hand squeezed mine in silent amusement. I tried to pull my hand back, but his fingers only tightened around mine beneath the table. He even slightly squeezed it again as if bestowing me a warning not to break the act.

“Indeed, yes, Lucretius replied, slicing a piece of his steak and placing it on my gate, caysing me to crease my forehead slightly. “Eat it,” he mouthed, as if reading the question in my med blys his attention to his brother. “I want to hasten the Luna ceremony for my wife before we ways to the camp. But looking at him, it seemed like he wasn’t facing any dilemme about our situation. Or could have been
wrong.
Lorenzo nodded. “Understood. Then, I would like to help out with the preparation.”
“That would be lovely, brother.” He took a slice of meat for himself before eating it.
ghtly leaned forward, resting her chin on her palm. “You know what? You two certainly make a ncing pair, Just like our Redmund and his Lilith.” Her smile widened, her gaze softening at their son and… to their future daughter–in–law. “The two single men in the House of Franciosa are now in a relationship. This is truly a joyous celebration!”
I slightly tightened the hold on my utensils at her words, Oh, Romina… This could have been only one single man in the household if only Redmund had the guts to accept our mate bond.
But he would rather choose someone who wasn’t even his mate than be with the person the Moon Goddess had destined for him.
Lorenzo agreed. “We are also going to take care of the wedding for the next few days. Redmund wishes to hasten the pace in a week. Isn’t that right, son?”
Redmund’s hand slightly brushed over Lilith’s as he nodded. “Yes, Mother. There’s no reason to delay it further,”
That was when I laughed. It was a light, sweet one, no lacing mocking in it. It was time that we had some interactions rather than staying silent in the corner.
“No reason to delay,” I said meaningfully, twirling my wine glass between my fingers. “I could understand your sentiment. Lucretius and I are on the same path as you. Right, hubby?” I sweetened my voice when I
