I knew what he planned to do immediately.

I wanted to warn her, not because I thought she deserved it, but because I believed no one else needed to die.
However, before I could even opened my mouth, Roger was facing his mother. In one quick move, he’d disarmed her, snatching the gun out of her hands.
“Roger, what-”
A loud bang filled the air as he shot her right between the forehead. Her body crumpled to the ground, blood pooling beneath his feet.
I screamed.
Scarlett moved, but Roger was fast. He had the gun pointed at me again.
“I only need a second to pull this trigger,” he warned her. “You may be able to kill me, but she’ll be dead too.”
Scarlett turned to me, eyes wild and helpless and briefly glancing at my stomach, but she took a step back. She wouldn’t risk him shooting, especially not now that I was pregnant.
He tossed her a pair of handcuffs. “To the bedframe.”
Scarlett scoffed. “I’m a lycan. I can break apart the bedframe in seconds.”
“I know, I’ve spent a lot of time reading up on you. There isn’t much about you in any of the history books. I don’t need you dead, I just need you restrained long enough to get what I want.”
“And what is that?” I asked. “You have to know that you’re not getting out of this alive. It’s only a matter of time before Kai gets here. He’ll kill you.”
“True, but you’d be dead. He’d be too mad with grief to do anything. He’ll ruin his own pack, he’d burn the whole world to the ground. Your friend here won’t be able to stop him, she loves him too much to put him down.”
“That’s not-”
I fell silent when Scarlett looked away, her eyes filled with shame.
He was right, she wouldn’t put him down.
I’d always assumed that if it came down to it, at least Scarlett or Damien would be strong enough to do what was necessary, but looking at her now, she was more likely to be right there with Kai as he ruined the world.
I scoffed.
Kai was wrong when he said he was the weak link… it was me.

Chapter 134
If I died, Roger would get everything he wanted.
Checkmate.

“Before you kill me, I have one question,” I said softly. “Can I ask?”
He thought about it for a moment before nodding.
“Why the kids? Why put them through that?”
“I never wanted to hurt them.”
“You tortured them-”

“No, I saved them. I fed them wolf’s bane every day. I fed them small traces of silver. They’re going to be normal. I did that for them. I wanted to make sure that they weren’t cursed like I was to have this… thing inside of me.”
“You can shift.”
It wasn’t a question, but he nodded nonetheless. “Not completely, no. But there was a voice in my head. It drove me fucking mad. I found a way around it though. A few drops of wolf’s bane in my food and I was able to get it to shut the fuck up. My mother had her problems, but she did teach me about wolves and how to kill them.”
I risked a glance at his mother’s unmoving body before turning back to me. “What your mother did to you was cruel, but she does not represent us all. You don’t have to do this.”
“Actually, Daisy, I do. The world will be a better place without your kind in it, and I am going to prove a point by starting with you… and that spawn.”
He lowered the gun from my head to my stomach.
My breath caught in my throat as horror washed over me. “No, I’m not-”
“You think I don’t know? I’ve had my eyes on you for a while now. The way I see it, I’m doing your child a favor. It’ll never have to be-”
The door slammed open:
For a brief second, Roger looked away from me to glance at the entrance and Scarlett used that moment to strike.
She broke free from the headboard with a scream of frustration and threw a pillow my way. It hit the side of my face with enough force to send me flying to the ground.
Pain shot up my side as my arm slammed hard into the wooden floor. It blinded me for a full five seconds.
Pandemonium erupted as Scarlett threw herself at Roger. He fired instantly, the bullet hitting her square in the chest. She fell to the ground, her hand clutching the left side of her chest. Judging by the amount of blood, he hit something major.

“No!” I screamed.

Damien and Kai burst into the room. It didn’t take much for them to disarm Roger and pin him to the ground. My mate offloaded weeks of pent up rage on him, kicking and punching his fallen figure, but I couldn’t take my eyes off Scarlett.
I fought through the ropes, trying my best to get out of them.
“Someone help her!” I screamed. “She’s dying!”
