I dreamed of Lucas and his friends, their laughter, and their fingers pointed at me. I dreamed of my past catching up to me. and the look of pure disgust on Kai’s face as he found out the trh.
“You are a whore, Daisy,” he spat in my dream, his face contorted in rage. “I rue the day I met you.”
I tried to make my way to him, tried to explain that it wasn’t my fault, but the words wouldn’t form, and I couldn’t move. The more I tried, the firmer I was kept in place. I felt hot tears steam down my cheeks as he turned away from me.
“You don’t deserve him,” another voice said… more feminine.
Scarlett appeared in front of me, her hands crossed over her chest. She towered over me, her nose turned down in disgust.
“Leave, Daisy. Leave and never return.”
“But-”
“DAISY!”
I awoke with a gasp.
Sweat covered my entire body, and my hair stuck to my face. Scarlett stood in front of me, her hands on my shoulders and her eyes filled with worry. She reached out to brush a strand of hair out of my face, but I stopped her, my fingers wrapping around her wrist.
She pulled back instantly. “Are you alright? You were thrashing in your sleep.”
“I’m fine,” I said curtly, pulling myself out of bed.
I headed for the bathroom and splashed ice cold water on my fade. it did little to calm my raging heart.
I looked up only to find Scarlett standing in the doorway to the bathroom.
“Why are you here?” I asked, barely able to keep the slight annoyance from my voice.
“I came to ask you to join us for breakfast when I saw you.”
“I’ll be down in a minute.”
I had hoped that would be enough to call her off, but she didn’t move. Instead, she stood there with her hands crossed over her chest.
I let out a sigh. “What now?”
“I want to make sure that you’re okay.”
“I’m fine,” I snapped.
“Actually, you’re not. You look terrified, and your eyes are heavy like you haven’t slept.”
I didn’t bother trying to deny it.
It took a long time before sleep took me last night. I lay awake, string up at the ceiling. So much had happened in the past twenty–four hours.

Chapter 5
“I know you’re wary of me, Daisy, but I swear that I mean no harm. I just want to be your friend-”
“Why?” I cut her off. “You don’t even know me.”

She smiled softly. “It’s like I said yesterday, you’re Kai’s mate, and that’s enough for me. If you want me to go, I’ll go, but I just want you to know that you have a friend here, even if you don’t want one.”
She started to leave.
I expected to feel relief that she was gone, but all I felt was panic and fear. I’d never met someone who wanted to be my friend so badly. Even as the Beta’s daughter, people hated me, but here was the lycan princess, practically begging for my
attention.
“Wait!”
She paused in her tracks and turned to me hopefully. “Yes?”
“I don’t have any clothes, and I was wondering if maybe you could lend me something?”
A slow smile spread on her lips. “I have the perfect dress. I’ll be right back.”
While she left to get the dress, I took a shower.
I returned to find her standing in the middle of the room, a long floral dress in hand. She seemed so excited that I couldn’t help but crack a small smile myself.
It fit perfectly, which was surprising considering that she was much taller than I was. It was made of the softest fabric and it made me feel beautiful despite the fact that I hadn’t slept.
“You look amazing,” she gushed. “We should totally get you a lot of dresses when we go shopping later today.”
“Today?” I asked and she nodded.
“I hope that’s okay. Kai said you’d need new clothes and-”
She was cut off by the sound of my stomach rumbling loudly.
My cheeks burned a bright shade of pink. “I’m sorry, I-”
“Don’t apologize,” she cut me off. “I’m starving as well. Let’s go.”
The embarrassment didn’t leave me even after we got to the dining room. She assured me that it was nothing but I was mortified. It didn’t help that Kai was in the dining room when we arrived.
His eyes fixated on me instantly, running down my skin slowly. didn’t think it was possible, but my cheeks turned an even brighter shade of red.
In the brightness of the day, I could appreciate just how hot my hate was. He was toned in all the right places, and the sheer aura that radiated off him was enough to have my knees buckling Scars littered his knuckles, all the way to his forearm.
I would’ve bet my entire life savings that there were more all over his skin, but it was hidden by his clothes.
“Did you sleep well?” he asked, his deep voice sending shivers down my spine.
I nodded slowly. “Yes, thank you”
His lips curled. “You don’t have to lie, Daisy.”
I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to react to that. “The bed was fine-”

“I know the bed was fine. There are multiple reasons why someone will sleep badly.”
I glanced over at Scarlett who I noticed was avoiding my eyes, a I knew she’d told him about the nightmare.
So much for being my friend.
“It was fine,” I reiterated before making my way over to the table
It was smaller than I expected, only seating eight, but I took the at close to the other end of the table, keeping as much of a distance as I could between Kai and myself.
“Scarlett could you excuse us?” Kai said suddenly.
Scarlett didn’t delay. She nodded, scurrying out of the room, leaving my mate and I alone.
I could feel his piercing gaze on me, but I ignored him, focusing on spreading jam on a piece of toast. My hands shook with every passing second, as I waited for Kai to speak but he never did.
“You’re staring,” I said finally, after a long minute.
“If you want people to believe our bond, then you have to do better than this.”
I sighed deeply, dropping the slice of bread and turning to him. I don’t understand.”
“They need to believe that we are in love.”
“We’re just getting revenge. Does it matter?”
“Yes, it does. Lycans take matings very seriously. If you want to hit them where it hurts, they need to think that we are hopelessly in love, and that means you can’t sit on the other end of the table.”
I eyed the distance between us.
Kai waited patiently, glancing at the spot next to him. My legs fell like lead, but slowly, I pulled myself to my feet and walked over to his side. He was so close now that I could smell his cologne. It was musky, and reminded me of fresh rain.
I sat slowly. “Are you happy now?”
“Daisy-”
“So what’s the plan?” I cut him off, hating how my body reacted the sound of my name on his lips. “How do we go about our revenge?”
