Chapter 7
He pointed at me with trembling fingers.
“It was her! She locked me in a water dungeon and didn’t let me sleep for days. She even fed me spoiled food!”
I smiled coldly and looked at him. “But even so, Mr. Cruz, didn’t you enjoy every single bite of those meals?”
Human endurance truly was remarkable. I had my people bring them just one meal a day-cold and spoiled rice.
At first, Mason kept shouting that he was the Cruz family’s CEO and that he’d rather starve than eat such filth. But after three days, hunger made all pride irrelevant. Both of them devoured the rotten food like starving dogs, not even leaving
a single grain of rice behind.
Mason glared at me with a twisted expression.
“You venomous woman! Now that my father’s here to save me, your days are numbered!”
Sometimes I couldn’t help but marvel at how fair the universe was. When it gave you one thing, it always took away
another. Clearly. God had traded Mason’s intelligence for his looks.
Before he could finish his threat, Kai smacked him hard. “You goddamn disgrace! Wanna give me a heart attack? Get
your ass down and apologize to Miss. Prescott right fuckin’ now!”
Mason turned to his father, still unwilling and full of grievance. “Dad, why should I apologize? She kept me locked up for
so long and tortured me every day. Instead of standing up for me, you’re taking her side?”
Kai looked at his son and sighed in defeat. But since my mother had made it clear he couldn’t reveal my identity, he
could only grit his teeth and slam his foot into the back of Mason’s knees, forcing him to kneel in front of me.
With a carefully respectful tone, Kai said, “Miss. Prescott, I know my son has deeply offended you. Even if he died ten
thousand times, it wouldn’t be enough to atone. But I only have this one son. Please, I beg you to spare his life.”
Seeing his father so humble, Mason finally realized my identity wasn’t simple. “Dad… who is she, really? We’re one of the top three financial families in Asteria City. Who could we possibly not afford to offend?”
Kai shot him a deadly glare. “You idiot! I’ve told you again and again-there’s always someone stronger, always someone more powerful. I told you to act with restraint, but you never listened.”
“Let me tell you, Miss. Prescott is exactly the kind of person we cannot afford to cross. Whether you live or die now depends entirely on her word.”
Finally understanding the gravity of the situation, Mason’s expression turned from angry to terrified He stumbled over
his words.
“Miss. Prescott, I… I was ignorant. I didn’t know any better. Please forgive me for offending you. I’m truly sorry…”

I sat in my chair and slowly sipped the coffee beside me. After a moment, I glanced at them and spoke unhurriedly.
“Kai, you might be blaming Mason unfairly. The one who really offended me wasn’t him-it was his so-called ‘godsister.”
Mason just tried to stand up for her.”
Kai immediately slapped Mason across the head.
“You worthless fool! Always learning the worst things! What ‘godsister’? Tell her to get the hell out of my sight!”
Aubrey, watching from the side, instantly understood. If Mason couldn’t even protect himself now, there was no way he
could protect her.
