Chapter 149 You Said You’d Stay Tonight
Finched
“What’s that?” Daniel straightened up. The moment he said it, Kyle and Ethan followed his gaze–and saw that, at some point, Yael had already “teleported” over.
Hearing the commotion. Taylor and Jaden came out of the cave, only candied fruit Zachary had made–completely surrounded.

Matthew brushed the snow off his clothes. When he stepped inside, he saw Zachary sitting cross–legged on a beast–hide mat by the fire, head lowered, busy with something.
Cold air still clung to his cloak, so Matthew loosened it, leaned down from behind, and wrapped his arms around Zachary, pressing his face against his neck. “What are you working on?”
At the familiar voice, Zachary turned his head, revealing the pale beast–hide in his hands. “It’s getting cold. I’m making another top for Jaden.”
Matthew kissed the corner of his lips but didn’t say anything.
Zachary touched his hand and found it a little cold, so he held it and guided it closer to the fire. “Just got back from the chief?”
“We were clearing snow in the tribe.”
Matthew buried his face into Zachary’s collar and lightly bit at the soft flesh on his neck. It tickled. Zachary tried to dodge, but was quickly pulled back.
Voices drifted in from outside. He turned his head. “Yael and the others are here?”
“They just reached this area.”
With Matthew pressing down on him, Zachary couldn’t stand up. He patted Matthew’s hand. “I’ll go take a look.”
Outside the cave, what had started as simple path–clearing had somehow turned into Yael, Kyle, and the others diligently cleaning the snow in front of Matthew and Zachary’s cave.
The only problem was–their eyes kept drifting toward the candied fruit.
The moment Zachary stepped out, their movements sped up so much that it almost looked like afterimages. Anyone watching would’ve been deeply moved.
Zachary smiled and called them over to rest, taking down the candied fruit and bringing out some dried persimmons from inside.
Four tall, broad–shouldered therians squatted in a neat row by the entrance–dried persimmon in one hand, candied fruit in the other. The sight was both ridiculous and oddly endearing.
Matthew noticed the bits of sugar stuck to the corner of Zachary’s lips and suddenly felt like trying a different way of eating–but with too many people around, he could only shelve the idea with some regret.
After the snow was cleared, Zachary wrapped a few skewers of candied fruit in leaves and asked Yael and Ethan to take them back for Quincy and Elias. Then he packed some dried persimmons and more candied

fruit and went to thank the shaman.
Bruce was delighted to see Zachary.
Zachary smiled. “I made something. Give it a try.”
“Thank you, Zachary.” Bruce’s lips curled up, clearly in high spirits. After tasting it, he even started humming a tune.
Donald was there too and was lucky enough to get a share.

Bruce enthusiastically pulled Zachary over to see the medicine he had just brewed and invited both him and Matthew to try it.
Having just eaten Zachary’s food, Donald, out of sheer conscience, tried his best to warn them–frantically gesturing side to side with his hands and sticking his tongue out with an exaggerated expression of agony.
Zachary and Matthew exchanged a look.
Matthew spoke calmly, “Mr. Bruce, we still have things to take care of at home. We’ll head back first.”
“So soon?” Bruce looked a little disappointed.
“Mm, very urgent,” Zachary quickly added.
Bruce sighed. “Alright then.”

Zachary and Matthew both let out a quiet breath of relief, shot Donald a sympathetic look, and quickly made their exit.
For dinner, they cooked a pot of soup. Taylor and Jaden ate until they were stuffed. After washing up, they were promptly shooed off to the neighboring cave by Matthew.
While Matthew cleaned up, Zachary crouched nearby, munching on candy and watching him.
Suddenly, Matthew asked, “Is it good?”
“I’ll get you some,” Zachary said, starting to stand–only to be pulled straight into Matthew’s arms the next
second.
Matthew kissed him, his tongue slipping in, prying open Zachary’s teeth and stealing the candy straight from his mouth.
When they finally broke apart, Zachary was slightly breathless, staring at him in disbelief. “You….”
“Very good,” Matthew said seriously, as if he had just conducted a proper evaluation.
After last night, Zachary had essentially opened the door to a whole new world for Matthew. So that night, after a quick wash, Matthew stripped himself completely and lay on the bed, full of anticipation.
Unfortunately, the two cubs next door insisted on having Zachary tell them a story.
By the time Zachary waited for Jaden and Taylor to fall asleep–and lingered a little longer–he finally snuck back into the cave. Seeing the lump under the blankets, he let out a breath of relief.

Zachary climbed into bed quietly, but the moment he lifted the edge of the blanket, Matthew grabbed his waist and flipped him underneath, those golden eyes filled with quiet grievance.
“You… weren’t asleep?” Zachary gave a slightly guilty smile.
Matthew said nothing, just stared at him.
Zachary blinked, trying to smooth things over. “I was telling Jaden and Taylor a story, so I got delayed a bit.”
Still, no response.

Zachary reached out, wrapping his arms around him, and tilted his head up to kiss him.
Matthew’s voice was low. “You said you’d stay with me tonight.”
“And I came, didn’t I?” Zachary rubbed his cheek against him.
“I waited a long time.”
“Sorry.” Zachary’s attitude was impeccable–he kissed him again.
Having firmly seized the moral high ground, Matthew moved on to his request. “Bite me.”
Zachary froze, stumped.
Matthew leaned down further, pressing his chest toward Zachary’s lips. “Here.”
Zachary didn’t quite understand, but he still opened his mouth and gave a tentative, light bite.
