Harder.

What kind of preference is thisZachary stared at him. Matthew, are you serious?

I want you to leave a mark here.

Zachary hadn’t expected that this socalled primitive man could be this wildbut well, his mate was his mate. Indulging him was only natural.

He bared his teeth slightly. If it hurts, say something.”

Mm.

And so, Zachary went at it, bit by bit.

Matthew lowered his head, running his fingers over the marks, finally revealing a satisfied smile. And thenthings quickly spiraled out of control.

Zachary had already noticed the night before that Matthew seemed particularly fond of this, though he himself could only keep it up for a short whileit wasn’t exactly effortless work. But even that short time was enough to send all of Matthew’s blood rushing straight to his head.

By the time Zachary rolled off him and caught sight of those gleaming, excited eyes, he knewhe was done for tonight. All he could do was pray he wouldn’t make any embarrassing sounds, especially with the two cubs right next door.

But Matthew had clearly prepared in advance. Before things escalated, he had stepped out of the cave and tossed a yellowbrown, heartshaped leaf into the fire in the neighboring cave.

The next day, Matthew set out to hunt with the other therians in the tribe.

The cold season had come too early and too suddenly. Unlike previous years, they hadn’t managed to store enough food in advance. While there were still fruits and wild vegetables, meat was something they simply couldn’t replace,

Especially later on, when temperatures dropped to their lowesteven therians would avoid going out unless absolutely necessary. At that point, heavy snow would seal off the mountains, everything would fall silent, and animals would nearly vanish without a trace. Hunting would become almost impossible.

So now, at the very start of the cold season, the tribe had to seize this last opportunity.

At dawn, Matthew and the others set out. There weren’t many animals near the tribe, so they had to travel farther than usual.

Black panthers stood out starkly against the snow, and during the cold season, animals were especially alert. They ran across the snowy terrain for an entire morning and only spotted a single snorting beast.

Even the usually lively riverside was deserted, buried under snow. The animals no longer needed to come there to drink.

They stayed in the mountains overnight before finally managing to hunt two grunt beastsbut it was far from enough for the tribe.

When the therians returned, the rest of the tribe gathered to greet them. No one showed disappointment at the small catch. As always, they welcomed them with prepared food and hot water.

Zachary was there too. Seeing the dark circles under Matthew’s eyes and the heaviness in his expression, he walked over and took his hand.

Matthew adjusted Zachary’s collar and held his hand. It’s cold outside. Let’s go home.

Mm.

Matthew had been out for a full day and night. After returning to the cave and tidying up briefly, he lay down and fell asleep.

Zachary simmered a pot of duck soup with white radish, berries, ginger slices, and scallions, letting it cook slowly over low heat in a stone pot. By the time Matthew woke up, it would be just right.

After asking Jaden to keep an eye on things, Zachary went to see the chief. The shaman happened to be there as well, so Zachary shared his ideaice fishing.

While the ice covering the streams and rivers wasn’t too thick yet, whether using fish traps or fishing rods, the results should be promising. After all, the fish in this world had never encountered anything like this- they’d be much easier to catch.

The chief and the shaman immediately supported the idea. They arranged for the tribe to start weaving fish traps, and Zachary would teach them how to make hooks from bone and assemble fishing rods.

By the time Matthew woke up, Zachary had already returned. He handed him a full bowl of duck soup. Drink it while it’s hot.

Where did you go?Matthew asked.

Zachary blinked. How did you know I went out?

Your nose and cheeks are flushed.”

Zachary smiled and told him everything about visiting the chief.

After listening, Matthew suddenly asked, Zachary, what’s your world like?

The question caught Zachary off guard. For a moment, he didn’t know how to answer. After thinking it over, he said, In my world, people can’t turn into beasts. We don’t hunt for foodwe work and trade for what we need

He spoke for quite a while, while Matthew simply listened in silence.

After a moment, Matthew said, Your world sounds good.

Zachary nodded. It’s definitely more convenient.

Matthew didn’t respond. After finishing the last sip of soup, he got up, went to the water basin, scooped

some water from the stone jar, and washed the bowl.

That night, when they went to bed, Matthew turned onto his side and pulled Zachary into his arms. He didn’t do anything elsejust held him quietly and pressed a kiss to his hair.

Zachary felt like something was a little off, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. When he looked up, Matthew had already closed his eyes.

Zachary thought he’d ask him in the morning, but when Matthew woke up the next day, that strange mood was completely gone. He boiled water, gathered firewood, made breakfast, even helped Zachary get dressed –and then pulled him in for a kiss.

The tribe had already made some fish traps before, so today, the therians would be trying out Zachary’s method.
