Chapter 37 Overwhelming Happiness
Taylor gave a firm, decisive nod in agreement.
Jaden inhaled the subtle, fresh scent lingering on his sire, and little by little, the tightness in his body began
to loosen.
By the time Matthew returned, he found two small cubs gathered closely around Zachary inside the cave.
Yael had also come. He had originally planned to head straight back, but he ran into Ethan along the way When he heard the cubs had been fighting, he assumed Taylor was still with Jaden and rushed over to check on the situation.
However, the moment he stepped into the cave, his attention was completely captured by the door at the entrance. He opened it, closed it, then opened it again, unable to resist how much he enjoyed it.
Wrapping his arms around the wooden door, Yael stretched his neck forward and asked, “Zachary, could you show me how to make this?”
“Kyle and Daniel already know how. Ask them instead,” Matthew replied, flipping the beast-hide curtain aside-only for it to smack right into Yael’s face.
Yael yelped in surprise. “It’s not like I was making Zachary work hard!”
Matthew then gave both cubs a long, assessing look from top to bottom.
Yael frowned in confusion. “I heard you two got into a fight. Taylor, why is Jaden the one injured?”
Taylor lifted his chin proudly. “Because I’m amazing!”
“Oh, really?” Yael teased in that irritating tone of his. “Jaden was clearly the one protecting you the whole
time.”
Taylor’s expression twisted with annoyance. “He kept pulling me back and stopping me from rushing in. Next time, I’ll beat them so badly they’ll cry and beg to leave.”
Yael didn’t hold back just because he was a cub. “Stop going around picking fights whenever you feel like it.”
Taylor huffed and turned his head away, clearly unwilling to listen.
Matthew had always been rather relaxed when it came to Jaden. Since fighting was common among therians, he didn’t interfere as long as the injuries weren’t severe.
After all, therians were not delicate creatures-not even the cubs.
Zachary asked, “Did Chief Alfred need something from you?”
Matthew sat down on a stone seat and replied, “In a few days, the tribe will organize a large expedition. Before the cold season arrives, we’ll exchange the food and game we gather with the eastern merfolk tribe for salt. That will sustain us through winter.”
“I see.” Zachary nodded. “Will you be going as well for the salt trade?”

Yael answered first. “Of course. All the strongest male therians will be participating. We’ll hunt along the way
100.”
A thought crossed Zachary’s mind, and he asked, “Can I come with you?”
Yael quickly responded, “We’ll be away for many days, and taking along a sub-therian-”
“I’ll speak to Chief Alfred about it,” Matthew interrupted, unable to deny the hopeful look in Zachary’s eyes.
Yael glanced at Matthew with confusion, but Matthew ignored him.
The moment Zachary heard this, his expression brightened instantly. Remembering the food he had prepared earlier that day, he hurried to bring it out.
Yael’s sense of smell was exceptionally sharp, and he had been searching for that scent for some time. The instant he saw the food, he grabbed a piece and bit into it eagerly, savoring it so much that he looked almost intoxicated.
“That’s mine!” Taylor quickly covered his own portion, protecting it from Yael.
“This is incredible, Zachary,” Yael said while chewing. “How can something taste this good?”
Recalling Matthew’s reaction the previous day when candy was mentioned, Zachary handed him a honey lollipop and said softly, “This is candy. It’s very sweet. Try it.”
Matthew stared at the amber-colored candy in his hand for a long while.
So this is what candy looks like-candy Zachary gives me.
Noticing his silence, Zachary asked, “Is something wrong?”
Matthew shook his head and closed his hand around the lollipop, his voice low and rough. “So this is candy…”
After Yael and Taylor left, Jaden and Matthew went down to the stream to handle the long-eared beast they had hunted earlier.
The cave became quiet again. Sitting by the fire, Zachary worked on the final stitches of a garment laid across his knees, using a bone needle.
Outside, the night had already fallen completely.
When the two returned, Zachary had just finished. He lifted the clothing and examined it under the firelight. It actually looked quite presentable.
“Jaden, come here and try this on,” Zachary called.
Jaden had noticed the red beast-hide on the stone earlier, though he hadn’t realized it was meant for him.
Holding the unfamiliar outfit, Jaden stood uncertainly, unsure how to proceed. Its design differed completely from the clothing worn by others in the tribe.
He didn’t know how to wear it.

As soon as Zachary saw uc nesnauoi vii jauen’s face, ne niunately unuciwvu, taking the clothes, he stepped forward to help him.
Jaden stood still and obedient, following every instruction. When told to raise his arms, he did so. When asked to lift his head, he complied.
“That looks good,” Zachary said, smoothing the beast-hide with satisfaction.
Jaden’s fair skin and refined features were highlighted even more by the red fox-fur coat. With the small beast-ear hat placed on his head, he became even more endearing.
Standing quietly with a soft, fluffy appearance, he looked almost like a small doll.
“Thank you, Sire,” Jaden said, gently touching the clothes as he kept glancing down at them repeatedly, cherishing them deeply.
The outfit was both comfortable and visually appealing. Its snug cuffs and neckline made it practical while keeping him warm-completely unlike anything worn in the tribe.
Most importantly, it was made by his sire’s own hands. That alone was enough to fill Jaden with overwhelming happiness for a long time.
Zachary also put on the top he had made for himself. Standing side by side, the tall and the small shared similar features and striking ice-blue eyes. Anyone who saw them would immediately recognize how alike they looked.
