My Panther Mate & Our Little Cub novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38 A Warm Cave Dinner

Matthew looked a little out of place next to them.

He acted like he didn’t care and kept adding firewood to the fire. However, his eyes never left the clothes of the cub and his mate.

He felt a little empty inside.

Zachary picked up a thin rope and walked over to Matthew.

When Matthew saw him coming, he instinctively straightened his back.

Zachary smiled at him. “Don’t move. I need to measure your size so I can make clothes for you.”

Matthew suddenly lifted his eyes and looked at Zachary. He asked even though he already knew, “You’re making clothes for me?”

Zachary nodded. “Of course. Jaden and I both have new clothes. How can you not have any? We’re a family

The gloom in Matthew’s heart cleared in an instant. He tightened his grip on the wood, then relaxed it, then tightened it again.

Zachary stretched out the rope and started measuring Matthew’s shoulders and arms.

The moment his fingers touched him, Matthew stiffened up. His body went rigid, and his expression turned a little awkward.

Zachary purposely touched his firm muscles. He felt a bit jealous, but mostly he found it interesting.

“Stretch your arms,” Zachary said.

Matthew immediately spread his arms straight out, stiff like a cross.

Zachary held back a laugh. He wrapped his arms around Matthew’s waist and carefully noted down his

measurements.

Matthew lowered his head and stared at Zachary’s slender, pale neck. His Adam’s apple moved, and he felt like his heartbeat was acting strange.

Even after Zachary finished, Matthew still stood there for a long time, like a mannequin in a store.

Jaden was completely focused on his new clothes made by Zachary. His usually quiet face showed a small

smile.

When Jaden wasn’t paying attention, Matthew reached over and rubbed the clothes on him. Jaden immediately gave him a distressed look.

The cub quickly smoothed the spot Matthew had touched, as if afraid the fur would fall off.

Matthew felt like his heart had been stabbed.

Soon, his attention shifted again. He looked at the beast hides on the rack in the cave and started wondering

what kind of clothes Zachary would make for him.

Do we have enough hides at home?

Maybe I should go hunt more beasts that are good for clothing.

The snorting beast would be a good choice.

Tiger or bear skin would work too.

Wolf fur might be even better in color.

As Matthew kept thinking, his brows relaxed, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.

The weather was getting colder, and night came earlier each day.

Jaden’s attention was drawn to the shrimp and fish in the stone basin.

Zachary smiled and said, “Let’s try something different today.”

Jaden immediately added more firewood to the pit.

After spending these days together, Matthew had noticed that Zachary didn’t like handling live food. He picked up the blue-white fish they had caught earlier and went outside the cave to clean it. He followed Zachary’s instructions and gutted it, removed the gills, and scraped off the scales.

Zachary marinated the fish with wild onions and ginger for a while. Then he heated oil in a pot and fried a few eggs first. He set them aside.

He placed the fish in the pot and fried it on both sides until golden. Then he poured in boiling water and let it simmer on low heat. Once the aroma came out, he added wild greens and the eggs, along with some salt.

Before serving, he sprinkled chopped wild onions on top. A rich pot of fish soup was ready. Just the smell made your mouth water.

The river shrimp were fried directly in oil until they turned red. A little salt was enough to make them taste

great.

Zachary picked up a shrimp from the bowl and handed one to Matthew and one to Jaden.

Before he could even say “Try it,” the father and son took them and stuffed them into their mouths, shell and all.

It was fragrant and fresh.

Zachary smiled when he saw this.

It’s fine.

Shrimp shells have calcium anyway.

The long-eared beast was cut into pieces. After marinating for a while, it was fried first and then stir-fried. The smell was rich and savory.

Chapter 38 A Warm Cave Dinner

The entire cave was filled with the tempting smell of food.

Ever since eating Zachary’s cooking, Bruce couldn’t stop thinking about it. He just so happened to pass by nearby today. He couldn’t help but peek over again and again.

After thinking for a moment, he quickly went back to his place. He wrapped something in leaves and headed toward Zachary’s cave.

When he got close, Bruce purposely made his footsteps louder.

To let air in while cooking, the animal skin curtain had been pulled aside, and the door was open.

Therians had sharp hearing and smell. Matthew instinctively looked toward the entrance.

When he saw it was Bruce, he quickly stood up. “Why are you here?”

“I came to bring something,” Bruce said with a natural smile. “I heard Jaden was injured. This is some medicine I just made.”

Zachary quickly took it. “Thank you, Mr. Bruce.”

“It really is convenient,” Bruce said as he tried opening the door. “I heard Kyle and Ethan praising your cooking today. It really is good.”

Zachary smiled. “I just figured it out on my own.”

Bruce didn’t hold back his praise. “Zachary, you’re really impressive.”

After chatting a bit, Bruce turned as if to leave. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back.”

Zachary sincerely invited him. “Mr. Bruce, stay and eat with us. I made something new today.”

“It does smell good,” Bruce said as he looked at the food on the stone table. “Just the smell is tempting.”

Jaden, who had received special attention from Bruce, felt both surprised and honored. He quickly made space beside him. “Mr. Bruce, sit here.”
