Chapter 75 Is It Possible to Have Two Mates?
“Matthew!” The moment Zachary spotted him, relief washed over his face.
Matthew reacted instantly. His tail swept around Zachary’s waist and drew him behind his body in one fluid motion. His back arched, every line of him tense, while a cold and terrifying killing intent spread from him without restraint.
Hubert’s reaction came just as quickly. His ears flattened hard against his head, and his pale violet eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. He lowered his center of gravity, muscles tightening one by one, like a predator ready to pounce at any moment.
Even Zachary, dense as he could be at times, could tell the atmosphere had turned frighteningly sharp. He rushed forward and placed himself between them.
“Stop. Both of you, calm down.”
He looked at Matthew first. “This is Hubert. He saved me just now.”
Then he turned to Hubert. “This is Matthew. He’s… my mate!
The word hit like a stone dropped into water.
Mate? Hubert’s body, which had been taut a second earlier, visibly slackened. The tension in his back disappeared. His ears drooped, and disappointment spread across his face so clearly.
“Let’s talk properly first,” Zachary urged. “Shift back.”
He had no intention of standing there while two massive beasts tore into each other. If they really fought, there was no way he could stop them. A careless swipe would probably send him straight to the afterlife.
Matthew and Hubert continued staring each other down, neither willing to show weakness. After a long, silent moment, both of them shifted back into human form.
In an instant, two tall, broad, completely naked men stood in front of Zachary.
Both were absurdly handsome.
Both were built enough to make anyone lose their train of thought.
Zachary immediately averted his eyes. “Put your clothes on.”
For therians, being naked was hardly worth mentioning. There was not always time to dress properly before shifting, and clothes being torn apart during transformation happened all the time. After hunting or fighting, it was common for them to run around bare while looking for something to wear.
Zachary, however, still carried the habits of the modern world. Shame had not disappeared just because he had crossed into anothe

Hubert only tied a beast–hide skirt around his waist. His gaze dropped briefly to Matthew’s clothing before

returning to Zachary.
The expression in his eyes darkened.
He lowered his brows. “Is he truly your
mate?”
Hubert had just saved his life and then been met with Matthew’s hostility the moment he appeared. Zachary felt a little embarrassed about that, so his reply came out softer than usual.
“Yes.”
Then he added, “Are you alright?”
The instant Matthew heard Zachary showing concern for someone else, his face turned even darker. “I didn’t even touch him.”
Zachary reached out and patted Matthew’s arm. “A wolf almost bit my throat a moment ago. Hubert pulled me out of the way and saved me. If he hadn’t, I might already be dead.”
Matthew’s attention snapped back to him at once. He looked him over carefully from head to toe. “Are you injured?”
“I’m okay.” Zachary gave a small shake of his head, then looked at Hubert apologetically. “Sorry. My mate probably misunderstood the situation and thought I was in danger.”
He paused before adding, “I’m sorry he reacted like that.”
The phrase “my mate” clearly soothed Matthew. The hard line between his brows loosened at last.
He looked at Hubert coldly. “Do you want a moo beast?”
Hubert dismissed the offer without hesitation. “No.”
After a brief silence, he stepped forward until he stood directly in front of Zachary. His expression turned unexpectedly solemn. “Consider me instead. I want to be your mate.
Before Zachary could even react, Matthew strode forward with a terrifying look on his face. “That will never happen.”
Hubert did not back off in the slightest. “I wasn’t talking to you.”
Zachary froze. His thoughts tangled into a complete mess. What? Is he seriously trying to steal someone right in front of their mates?
The wording in his head might not have been quite right, but the meaning was close enough.
Either
way, this
$ far too bold.
His relationship with Matthew might exist only in name for now. Strictly speaking, they were barely more than cohabitants. Even so, hearing another man openly declare, “I want your mate,” was enough to make
anyone angry.
Matthew’s fists tightened until his knuckles cracked. His voice came out colder than ice. “I said, he doesn’t
want you.

“How would you know?” Hubert threw him a glance full of disdain. Then he ignored him again and continued speaking to Zachary, “Why stay with him? His temper is terrible. One day, he might treat you badly.
Matthew’s expression turned murderous. “You’re asking to die!”
Hubert’s face hardened as well. “You think I’m afraid of you?”
Seeing the two of them on the edge of another clash, Zachary quickly grabbed Matthew’s arm. “Don’t. Cal down.”
Then he hurried to make things clear to Hubert. “I already have a mate.”
So that’s the reason he’s rejecting me? Hubert’s eyes brightened at once, as if he had found a solution.
“So what?” he replied immediately. “Then leave him. We can go back to the White Tiger Tribe together right
now.”
He sounded so matter–of–fact that Zachary nearly choked. Err… his way of thinking is unbelievable.
He hurriedly corrected him, “No. We’re doing well together, Really.”
Hubert’s expression fell at once. All the energy in him seemed to drain away.

“Really?” He looked at Zachary though he still could not accept it. After a moment of thought, he seemed to make another decision.
Then he spoke with complete seriousness, “That’s fine too. We can all live together. You can have two mates.” Zachary stared at him in stunned silence. What? That’s actually allowed?
In Beastworld, it turned out that a sub–therian could have more than one therian mate. It was uncommon, but not forbidden. If someone truly chose that kind of arrangement, most people would not make a big issue out of it.
Whether the therians involved would accept it so easily was another matter.
Zachary had never heard of anything like this before. His understanding of this world cracked apart on the
spot.
Slowly, he lifted his head and looked at Matthew. “Erm… this kind of thing can really happen?”
