51 Who is the Pet

Rork POV

I force myself to focus on the king as he speaks about my future bride. Having her to control has me practically giddy. I’m honestly surprised how much he is sharing with members of the coven about his own daughter. Truly he can’t trust outsiders this much. It makes no sense.

I had heard he was a smart man, but the more he divulges about her powers and abilities, the

more I realize that can’t be true. Hell, he shouldn’t even be telling the coven that the Midnight Wolf exists. For the first time since he started to speak, I notice the queen out of the corner of my eye. She truly is beautiful.

She leans toward the guard and whispers something. Again, I wonder if she isn’t as loyal to the king as the rumors say. I watch as she places her hand gently on the king’s forearm, and he immediately turns his attention toward her. “I’m going to step out for a moment,” she says. He kisses her hand before he looks past her. I swear the guard growls. “Axel, accompany the queen,” he says. “That isn’t necessary, Ace. I’m simply using the bathroom,” she says. “Myra, will you show the queen to the bathrooms near my office,” Melinda asks

before I can offer.

“Of course, mistress,” Myra says, like the suck up she is. She is as strong as Melinda, yet she takes orders like a pet. My eyes follow them until they both step out of the room. My heart races and my leg bounces, but I have to wait. I can’t make my intentions obvious. I can’t just hop up and rush out of the room after what happened earlier. A few minutes later I excuse myself quietly using the same reason the queen did. I feel the king’s eyes on me as I make my way out of the room.

I’m not surprised when the guard follows behind me. I make my way down the hallway toward the bathroom that is located directly across from Melinda’s office. I expect to see Myra standing outside, but fortunately she must have shown the queen where the bathroom was and left. It’s like everything is falling into place perfectly. Before I reach the door, I whirl around to face the f**king guard who is now only a few feet away.

“Do you really think you can stop me if I intend to harm her?” His eyes darken, and he takes a step toward me. I quickly begin to chant and his body freezes mid stride. I smile as I take a step toward him. “It’s really pathetic how weak you wolves are. A few spoken words and you are helpless. You can’t even protect your queen. Don’t worry, though, I have no intentions of hurting her right now. In fact, when I’m done you’ll have no memory of this conversation or of seeing me take her.”

I speak the incantation to wipe his memory for the few minutes just as the door to the bathroom opens. When I turn, the queen growls. Before she can link her mate, I block her

thoughts. “What have you done,” she asks, taking a step back from me. “Don’t worry, your majesty, he hasn’t been harmed. I need him alive, so when I return to the meeting they don’t suspect a thing.” I start to chant again and I watch her body stiffen. “Come with me, my new pet,” I say, and her body steps toward me. I can see the fear and confusion clearly in her

eyes.

Excitement bubbles up inside me and I turn to lead her back to my room. As soon as we step inside, I lead her to the corner of the room. I lift the veil where I have Lanie hidden. “Olivia, stand,” I say, and Lanie responds. I place the real queen in the chair that Lanie just stood from. I smile when she sits perfectly still. I run my finger down her cheek and lean in close. “D on’t worry pet. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

I replace the veil spell and turn to face Lanie. I quickly place the shimmer spell that includes the queen’s scent, which I can only duplicate because her scent is lingering in my room. I lead the fake queen back to the room just as the guard spots us. “My queen, are you alright,” he asks, glaring at me but clearly confused. “I’m fine Axel. I was just speaking to Balise. Let’s get back to the meeting,” she says. If I didn’t know who she really was I would believe she was Olivia.

When we reenter the room, the king’s eyes immediately follow Lanie until she takes her seat next to him. He reaches for her hand and lifts it toward his lips. His movement suddenly halts before his lips make contact with her skin. His head turns, and his eyes move to me. I swallow down the lump of panic and try to keep my face impassive. “Did you really think this was going to work, Rork,” the king asks. “Your majesty, I’m not sure what you mean,” I say, trying to keep my voice steady.

“I mean that you really thought that the Queen of Werewolves would be so easily taken by you. You can’t be that egotistical to think that this little plan would work,” he says as he gets to his feet. I notice for the first time that the coven members are standing around me. Before I can open my mouth to say another word, the king changes right in front of me. My fists ball at my side when that little ba**ard Colton is standing in the king’s place.

“What the f**k have you done?” “Not happy to see me, Rork. The feeling is very much mutual,” he says. I’m about to disappear when the door to the room opens and Olivia steps inside. When her eyes meet mine, I stumble back. What the f**k is happening is my only thought when I realize her eyes have changed colors, and they aren’t the same. How did she break the spell? She is just a wolf.

Della POV (Olivia)

As soon as he steps out of the room, I focus all my energy on the veil spell. It doesn’t take long for it to fall, and I move through the room. I open the door and Myra smiles. “Are you ready to do this, my queen,” she asks, and I smile. “Not yet, but someday, Myra.” “You are my queen, Della. Melinda and I have always known who you are, even when you were a pup” she

I look at her confused. “Diana, is special, as you know. She may be mute, but her visions are even more powerful than that evil b**ch Cassandra’s. Melinda and I are hoping now that she sees that not having the powers of spells doesn’t make her any less a witch,” she says. “I’d like to meet her after all this is settled.” “Of course, my queen,” she says with a wink. “Let’s go deal with this ba**ard. My aunt has been patiently waiting for his arrival.”

It’s her turn to look confused. “I’ll explain later.” We make our way back toward the room. When I hear Colton’s voice, I smile. I immediately focus my power on Rork. I block his magic before he tries to get out of what is about to happen. Amethyst and I don’t let the shimmer go as we push the door open. “How,” he practically whispers when he sees me. I can see Colton is losing his battle with the rage he feels toward his sperm donor. I move closer and place my hand on his arm.

“You’ll get your chance, Colton. I promise.” He turns toward me and nods before he takes a step back. “You want to know how we knew what you had planned. Let’s just say that the coven member you thought was worthless is going to be the reason that you die here today. Colton helped me find you, but she saw your despicable plan.” “You think that he can hurt me? His powers pale in comparison to mine. Are you counting on them to protect you,” he asks, pointing to the witches and warlock standing around him.

anyone of “They are nothing compared to me,” he says. “You think a lot of yourself. I think them could deal with your worthless a** but it was my mother you intended to use against me. So I will have the pleasure of ending your disgusting existence.” Confusion flashes in his eyes before realization dawns. I let the shimmer fade and smile when he takes a step back. I see the moment he realizes his powers aren’t working. “What have you done,” he asks, his voice laced with panic. “I figured for all you’re blustering, you would be a coward and try to run. There is no escaping your fate, Rork.”

“No, no, no, you can’t do this,” he says. I throw my head back and laugh before I turn to face the table. Valor, Maddy, and Ronan are all standing where the guard, Liam, and Ebony were just a few minutes ago. No reason to keep up the act any longer. Valor rounds the table and comes to stand at my side. “So before I decide exactly what your punishment will be, I’d like to hear exactly what you planned to do with my mother to make me do your bidding.”
