Chapter 235

Shane stared at Ray in disbelief and blurted out, “Didn’t you just say that if Catherine and I killed each other, I could follow you?”
Ray laughed. “Is it your ears or your brain that’s malfunctioning? I was clearly talking to your mistress. When did you get included? Besides, I was just speaking offhand–I never made any deal with her.”
If it were an actual deal, he’d take it seriously. But an offhand remark? He wasn’t above lying.
Seeing Ray reach for the gun on the table, Shane suddenly erupted with astonishing strength and lunged at him.
The instinct to survive ignited a burst of desperate courage.
Then he vanished. Gone without a trace.
In another dimension, a new corpse appeared.
In the next instant, Ray tossed Shane’s body back out.
Five people from the same “family,” buried together in one room. Somehow, that felt fitting.
Ray let out a faint, mocking smile.
“Alright. Slept with Shane’s wife and got everyone killed–guess that settles the score.”
He turned and walked out.
Strictly speaking, among this so–called family of five, the only one Ray personally killed was Shane. At most, he’d just fanned the flames. And Shane’s affair with Catherine—and the child–weren’t things Ray made up.
Was telling the truth a crime now? Still, killing without lifting a finger–using nothing but words–was thrilling in its own way. The downside was that it took too much brainpower, and the setup had to be perfect.
If Shane and Catherine hadn’t been having an affair–or even if they had, but without an illegitimate child–things wouldn’t have ended like this.
Using your brain to kill was exhausting.
Better to stick with brute force.
By the time Ray finished that thought, he had already reached the ground floor.
A group of people blocked his path.
Ray wasn’t surprised. The moment he left Ace’s apartment, he had activated his spatial perception.
Within a ten–meter radius, nothing escaped his notice.
They were residents of the complex–and clearly hostile. Every one of them was armed with something: kitchen knives, hammers, and the like.
“You’re the owner of that car, aren’t you?” one man asked. He looked to be in his forties, decently dressed, wearing gold- rimmed glasses.
“So what if I am?” Ray replied.
“If so, we’d appreciate it if you handed over the car keys,” the man said with a smile. “We’re all civilized people here–we don’t want to hurt anyone. But if you don’t want to be civilized, we’ll help you be civilized.”
Which was just a polite way of saying: We’re robbing you.
Ray laughed. “You really are civilized–dressing up robbery with such pretty words.”

The problem was, robbery required strength.
He glanced around at them and said calmly, “I’m a reasonable man. Leave now, and I won’t kill any of you. But once the fighting
starts…”
His voice turned icy.
…everyone who stays will die.”
Several people immediately showed fear on their faces.
They’d only come to pressure Ray into handing over the keys so they could go out and look for supplies. What was their ultimate goal? To survive.
If they died over a car, what was the point?
