Chapter 6
Liam looked at me, his face etched with guilt. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t protect you.”
Then he took my hand.
“You can still change your mind. It’s not too late. I can help you get out of this marriage, set you up with a
new identity.”
I stared at him, confused. What was he talking about?
When I didn’t respond, he stuffed a card into my hand.
“If anything comes up, call me anytime. And I’m sorry, on Isabella’s behalf. She’s got a temper, so, you know,
try to be patient.”
He thought I was Vivian. How ridiculous.
I shoved him away, picked up my luggage, and walked off without looking back.
He said goodbye quietly behind me. “Take care, Vivian.”
Liam pressed a hand to his chest when the slender figure finally disappeared.
He felt a sudden, sharp pain that he couldn’t explain.
He chalked it up to guilt. He’d promised to protect Vivian, yet he still couldn’t stop her from going to Italy.
But what else could he have done?
Isabella was the one he’d chosen since they were kids. She was his future wife. Nothing could ever change
that.
He glanced at his phone.
Isabella was still angry and had not replied to any of his messages.
But that was fine.
Tonight was the wedding Isabella had been waiting for. She would be happy.
With that thought, Liam headed to the church to carefully prepare for his wedding with Isabella.
Today was the wedding of the Moretti family’s heir.
All members of the board were present.
Liam watched the doors open slowly.
The Don came in with a warm smile and walked Vivian down the aisle.
Seeing the bride all done up, Liam froze.

A chill ran from his feet straight up to the back of his skull.
Vivian? How could it be Vivian?
Then who was the woman who left at the airport that morning?
Liam didn’t want to admit it, but the answer was screaming at him.
The one who left… was Isabella. They had switched places.
“Liam, I finally married you.” A triumphant gleam flashed through Vivian’s eyes.
Father nodded with a satisfied smile and held Vivian’s hand out to Liam.
“She’s my favorite daughter. Make sure you treat her well.”
Liam finally reacted. He stepped back immediately. “No. This is wrong! I’m supposed to be marrying
Isabella!”
The moment he spoke, the entire church fell silent.
“Liam!” Father’s face darkened. “Is marrying the heir to the Moretti family really that beneath you?”
A board representative stepped forward at that moment.
“The original agreement never said Liam would marry an illegitimate daughter, right?”
This was someone I had arranged in advance.
Once I left, it was time for the Moretti family to change its Don.
Right in front of everyone, they exposed the truth Father had spent years hiding.
“Vivian and her home-wrecking mother drove the Donna to her grave.”
“Now you’ve forced Principessa Isabella into an overseas marriage and you still want to hand her fiancé over
to your bastard? Don, that’s cold.”
“Don’t forget, you and Donna built this family together. Now that Isabella has married abroad, the board doesn’t want an illegitimate daughter to inherit!”
“Enough! That’s ridiculous!” Father’s face turned red with anger, but guilt showed in his eyes.
“Vivian is my real daughter. She’s Isabella’s sister!”
“Don’t you dare insult Isabella’s bloodline,” my uncle said coldly, getting to his feet. “Keep her name away from that little nobody.”
“For years, you used my sister’s things to threaten Isabella into silence.”
“So you sent her to Italy. Did you really think no one in our family would stand up for her?”

“As long as I’m alive, she will never be officially recognized as my sister’s child!”
Just then, an assistant rushed over to Father, phone in hand.
