Sera
For seven days, I'd checked the bond every hour, hoping it would give me more than it ever had. The thin thread between Fenris and me hummed with his steady heartbeat, a reminder that he was still alive and unbroken. But beyond that? Nothing. No sense of his surroundings, no indication of whether he'd slept or eaten, if he'd been wounded or worn down. I knew less about him now than I would have about a stranger back home with a phone.
I'd been trapped in this room for longer than I could track, rolling in and out of the furs, dozing in fits and starts, and losing all sense of time. The bed had stopped feeling like a bed long ago. I'd been so still for so long, my body ached. My mind ached more. I wasn't grieving, not yet. I was just so, so bored, restless with pent-up energy, that standing in the dirt trading blows with Taya right now would at least be something to do with my hands.
I sat up, groaned at the room like it was the one holding me captive, and ran a hand through my greasy hair. Fine. I'd say it once, to myself, and then bury it. Last night, I'd gotten my fingers slick between my thighs, chasing a release that never quite came.
Fuck.
This was what happened when I let the idleness rot. It turned into something shameful, something I'd call an illness if I saw it in anyone else. But there was no Fenris here to give me what I needed - his massive hand gripping my neck, forcing my face into the pillow while he slammed into me from behind, fucking me hard enough to steal my breath. I craved that right now, badly enough that my own clumsy fingers hadn't come close to satisfying me.
But Fenris was out there, chasing the monster that had killed Dimitri. The thought made my stomach churn with guilt. Wanting my husband's hands on me while he hunted the wolf that had torn his brother open felt like something I should be disgusted by.
I dropped my head into my hands and cursed the empty air. Maybe I should have gone with him. What in the hell made me think I could hold this together alone? I'd been without him less than a day before I ended up in a duel with Taya again.
Good work, Luna. Brilliant.
