My Second Chance Mate is a Barbarian (Sera and Fenris) novel Chapter 375

Sera

I sprinted across the yard behind Mina, the cold air of Ironmaw burning my throat. We were close enough that the crowd's voices reached us, low and confused.

"What in the gods' name is she? A witch? She reeks of witchcraft, I tell you."

"No, a mad wolf, look at the eyes. The venom. That's not normal."

"A mad wolf would have torn their heads off by now. Look at her, she's half-naked and bleeding everywhere. I don't know what in the fuck she is."

"Gods, if this is what they're sending now, I think I'd rather a rogue. What is the Luna even doing here?"

"Maybe she knows what this thing is."

"Knows what? She's barely holding the keep, if you ask me, and you think she can sort this out?"

Mina glanced back at me, then reached out and took my hand. Her fingers were small and warm.

"You okay?" she said.

I squeezed her hand without answering, and then she pulled me through the edge of the crowd, and I was standing in the center of a circle of wolves, their faces tilted and eyes lowered.

"Look, it's the Luna," someone said behind me, and the whisper spread backwards. The crowd quieted, and the eyes of the pack shifted to me.

"Is she here to sort out the trouble?"

"What can she do about it? The guards have been struggling to get hold of that wild thing for near a minute already. She's already hurt one of them and gods know how. The Luna can't stop her."

I let their words pass over me like wind.

I pushed through the shouting crowd and reached the open circle at its center. In the middle of it, on the ground, was the naked rogue, thrashing and fighting wildly beneath two large Northern warriors.

"Get her legs!"

"Fuck, she's pushing too hard!!"
