My Second Chance Mate is a Barbarian (Sera and Fenris) novel Chapter 47

Sera

“Fuck me,” I whispered. I didn't plan to say it. The unfiltered demand just fell out of my mouth.

Fenris froze. His jaw tightened so hard a muscle jumped in his cheek. The thick cords in his neck strained. He looked down into my eyes, his grey irises dark and blown wide. He was fighting it. The sexual tension was a physical weight pressing against us from all sides.

"Taya fights for pride," he said, his voice turning rough and ragged. He ignored my demand, keeping his hand flat against my ribs. "She fights because she wants to prove she is better than you. She wants the crowd to cheer."

He dropped his hand. The sudden loss of contact made my skin cold.

"You fight to survive," he continued, taking a slow step back. "You fight because you want to live. That makes you more dangerous. Do not forget that tomorrow."

The distance between us felt like a physical punishment. I stood there, my chest heaving, my shirt still bunched in my hands.

"Sleep, Sera," he said.

He turned, walked to the door, and pulled it open. He stepped out and closed it behind him without looking back.

I dropped my shirt. I was shaking again, but not from the healing. I was aching. I was extremely wet. I was furious.

I walked to the bed and crawled under the heavy furs. I didn't sleep for a long time. I stared at the dark ceiling. I visualized Taya. I visualized her dropping her massive shoulder. I visualized the strike. I visualized breaking her.

The sun rose. The light filtering through the window was pale and icy grey.

Mina came in. She didn't speak. She helped me dress in simple, tight black leather pants and a sleeveless tunic that wouldn't catch on anything. I laced my boots tight.
