Rurik
Vidar Sarn's eyes left Taya's body and fell on Mina. He stepped toward her, his boots loud on the stone floor. Mina looked up as he approached, her eyes red-rimmed, wet, her cheeks flushed.
Vidar glanced at the Luna, brows raised in a quiet question. The Luna gave a small nod. Vidar turned back to Mina. He stopped a pace away from her, lowering himself slightly. His voice gentled. "What did you see, when you found her?"
He kept his eyes on her face, patient and still. I saw how different this was from how he had handled me.
Mina swallowed. The Luna's hand shifted on her back. "I... the Luna sent me," Mina said, her voice trembling. "For Kael. When you and your men arrived." She squeezed her eyes shut and opened them again. "No one answered the door. So I... went in."
She took a short, sharp breath. "When I got in, it was empty. No servants..." Mina's eyes darted to the wall, her lips tightening as she fought a sob.
"Hush," the Luna murmured, her hand moving in a small, slow circle. Mina's breath hitched. "It's alright."
Vidar waited. "And Taya?" he asked when Mina looked at him again. "Where was she?"
After a moment she said, "Taya was..." She shook her head then pointed to where I was with Taya.
"She was right there."
I turned away before I could see her look at it again.
"And my brother," Vidar said. "Kael. Where was he?"
Mina hesitated. Her eyes met the Luna's once more, then drifted back to Vidar.
"He wasn't here," she said quietly. "Kael wasn't here when I came in."
Vidar turned away, his eyes going to the table. He pointed without looking. "Someone ate with her."
