My Second Marriage with the Mafia Kingpin novel Chapter 500

Chapter 500: Closing In

"Sir, we received another tip."

Julius peeled his eyes from the files in his hand and looked at the agent who had just walked into the room.

"What is it?"

"It’s about Marshal Di Carpio."

His brows rose.

For the past several days, Interpol had been keeping a close eye on everything surrounding the Di Carpio family. An attack on a family of that scale was bound to create problems.

And it screamed bloodshed.

Now, Marshal Di Carpio himself had suddenly disappeared.

Julius closed the file in his hand.

"Where is he?"

The agent walked toward the table and placed another file in front of him.

"We received information that Marshal entered this country several hours ago."

Julius frowned as he opened the file.

"That’s not all," the agent continued. "According to our source, several people from the underground have been moving toward the same area."

"What area?"

The agent pointed at the map. "This city."

Julius’s frown deepened.

He knew the place.

Almost everyone who had spent enough time chasing international criminals knew about it.

The city technically belonged to the country, but the government had little to no control over what happened inside it. Mercenaries, smugglers, assassins, and all sorts of criminals had made the place their home over the years.

As long as no one caused trouble outside its borders, the authorities rarely bothered interfering.

"You said people from the underground are moving toward the city?"

"Yes."

"How many?"

"We don’t know." The agent shook his head. "But with what’s been happening to the Di Carpios, there are probably many people who want a piece of Marshal."

Silence fell upon the room.

That was true.

The underground was merciless.

The moment people smelled weakness, even those who had once bowed their heads would start showing their teeth.

Julius stared at the agent for several seconds before looking back at the map.

Of all places, why did these bastards have to choose a city filled with mercenaries?

His expression hardened.

He closed the file and turned to the agent.

"Get the team ready," he ordered. "We’re taking these bastards in one sweep."

Julius rose to his feet and grabbed his jacket, already heading for the door.

"We’re moving now."

At the same time...

It had been hours since Marshal and his men arrived.

Scott had already positioned men around the entire property. Armed mercenaries were stationed outside, while more were scattered throughout the surrounding woods.

The men guarding the property weren’t ordinary thugs. Many of them had spent most of their lives fighting for money. Some had served in the military. Others had worked for organizations that no longer officially existed.

And most importantly, they knew the city better than anyone coming from outside.

"Damn it." Marshal clicked his tongue as he chugged another drink, his face twisting—not because of the alcohol. "What now? Still nothing?"

He turned to Scott, who was supervising a team gathered around a table nearby.

"Nothing, sir." Scott shook his head. "Do not worry. Everything is going according to plan."

"Plan, plan, plan—damn it!"

Marshal slammed the glass onto the table.

His distress had only grown with every passing hour.

A few days ago, he had all the freedom, time, and wealth in the world. Now, here he was, locked inside this place, surrounded by armed men, hoping they would all survive the night.

Scott studied him but said nothing.
