My Second Marriage with the Mafia Kingpin novel Chapter 62

Chapter 62: Revive Your Dying Souls

"The heck?" Red clicked his tongue, his face sour. "Now we’re stuck here for how long? Six months?"

"Goddamn it," another guard from his team hissed. "What’s the point of being the best when I’m stuck here?!"

Another guard clutched his hair in distress. "Six months... of fucking hell!"

The group of five, originally part of Lucian’s main security team, grumbled in frustration just outside the mansion. From what they’d heard, Lucian had moved up his schedule and planned to finish a year’s worth of work in six months.

It wasn’t surprising—Lucian had those streaks. It was why he could stay home whenever he wanted without issue; these bursts of work bought him plenty of time.

But that also meant those left behind—to guard the territory, babysit Ashley, and ensure Primo’s safety—would be spending months doing basically nothing. Or worse... dealing with whatever nonsense Ashley could come up with.

"Why do we always get hit whenever they have marriage problems?" Red kicked a pebble in irritation. "Screw it!"

He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and habitually slipped one between his lips. But just as he was about to light it, he paused, raising a brow at his team.

"What?" he asked.

"Red, you’re not on break," one of them said. "Besides, there’s a designated smoking area now."

His face twisted. "So what? The master’s not here anymore. Who would care?"

Just as he said that, the mansion doors burst open.

All five of them jolted at the noise. When they turned, all they saw was Ashley running out.

She stopped briefly and turned to them. "Hand me the keys!" she shouted, jogging down the steps.

The men blinked in confusion, exchanging looks. Red, however, hissed, glaring at the reason their team was stuck rusting here. Ever since she arrived, there hadn’t been much action in their lives.

Well, except when she tried to escape.

But that didn’t count.

That kind of thing never gave them the adrenaline they craved.

When Ashley reached the car parked by the driveway, she paused upon hearing Nolan’s voice.

"Madam!" Nolan panted, standing by the entrance with Primo. Just like the old butler, Primo was slightly out of breath, his cheeks flushed, and his hair messy from just waking up.

"Where—where are you off to?!" Nolan called out.

Ashley smirked, but instead of answering, her gaze shifted to Primo. After a brief pause, she jogged back toward them. Reaching the top of the steps, she bent down in front of him.

"Primo, I’m just going to bring the big boss back, okay?" she said lightly.

Primo pressed his lips into a thin line, hesitation clear in his eyes. He didn’t want Lucian back. In fact, he didn’t care if his father stayed away for a year. It might even be better for her.

So why?

He raised his fingers and signed, [Why?]

"Because you don’t run away when you make a mistake," she replied, signing as she spoke. "You take responsibility. That’s what it means to be a decent person."

They held each other’s gaze. Nolan frowned, caught off guard by her words. Then, a quiet sigh escaped him, followed by a faint smile.

Nolan turned to the guards, who still hadn’t moved.

"What are you still doing over there?" he called out. "The madam asked for the keys!" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Red and the others raised their brows. But since it was Nolan, they exchanged looks before finally stepping forward.

"I’ll be back," Ashley smiled at Primo, ruffling his hair. "Wait for me. Let’s play the game together later, okay?"

Primo nodded.

Ashley straightened and turned to Nolan. "He said I can go out, right?"

Nolan hesitated, but nodded anyway.

"Aight!" she said, waving before jogging back down the steps.

As soon as she reached the driveway, she held out her hand. "Keys!"

"He can—" Red started to say, about to suggest someone else drive, but the guard holding the keys tossed them to her.

She caught them midair effortlessly and headed straight for the car. Just as she opened the driver’s seat, she looked back and shouted:

"Nolan, can I take them with me?!"

"Uh..." Nolan blinked. "Ye — yes!"

"Good!" she grinned at the five men. "Get in."

The five bodyguards: "..."

They frowned, clearly reluctant, but Ashley didn’t wait.

She jumped into the driver’s seat, started the engine, and buckled up. Rolling down the window, she glanced at them through the side mirror before shifting into reverse.
