My Skin Needs Touch, Their Stomachs Turn novel Chapter 100

Chapter 4

I was about to call a car when I spotted a black Maybach parked right at the entrance.

Justin was leaning against it, smoking, ash falling off the cigarette between his fingers. He’d clearly been

there a while.

He turned at the sound of my footsteps and pushed off the car. He stubbed out the cigarette and started

toward me.

“You’re still here?”

He nodded, watching me with an expression I couldn’t read. “I was waiting for you. Come on. I’ll drive.”

Where did he think he was taking me? He must’ve seen it on my face.

“You’re going back to your apartment, right?”

I shook my head. “I sold it a long time ago.”

Something flickered across his face. “Just get in. We’ll talk on the way.”

I didn’t move. He smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

“Sarah, don’t make this difficult. Come on. Old friends. Let me take you.”

A car behind us was trying to get out. The Maybach was blocking it, and the driver laid on the horn. He leaned out his window and started shouting.

I got into the back seat.

“Harborview Estates,” I said.

He paused. “You… you live there?”

Harborview Estates was the most expensive neighborhood in the city.

Before I could answer, he’d already decided.

“Right. I forgot what you do. You’re seeing a client?”

I nodded. It wasn’t worth explaining.

Rush hour traffic had us crawling.

With the windows rolled up, the car felt tight, suffocating.

Justin caught my eyes in the rearview. He chose his words carefully.

“Why’d you take a job here?”

This place was where the worst thing in my life happened. He probably assumed I’d never come back.

I wasn’t about to tell him the truth.

“It’s a job. They’re all the same.”

“You hated dealing with people. If it’s not going well, I could help you find something better.”

“I’m fine. I can handle it.”

We pulled up to Harborview Estates.

I reached for the handle. He grabbed my arm.

Before I could react, he pressed a card into my hand.
